Congratulations! Head Agent Tom Adams advises me that we surpassed our goal for the 1995 Alumni Fund. Thank you, all you givers, and thank you, Tom and all your fearless agents. Not easy asking for money, but once again, a job well done.
It's not too late to sign up for the minireunion, October 19-22. John McClintock gave you the details in his last newsletter. The football opponent is Colgate, and some of you may recall the fall of 1942 and a thriller against the "Red Raiders of the Chenango." We lost 27-19, but come see the Big Green turn the tables this year. And it will get you in shape for the 50th next June.
Not a lot to report, but here goes. Old roommate Jack Howard passed through on a business trip. Took me to lunch too! Jack's still active, works for Santanna Natural Gas Co. out of his home in Skaneateles, N.Y. Wish more of you would visit; I'll even buy lunch.
Had two nice calls from Dale Armstrong. Dale is in a new condo outside of Pittsburgh and spent the winter in Naples, Fla. He said he had a little setback but now he's out whacking the little white ball. Thanks for the calls, Dale.
Talked with Herman Obermayer what a busy man! He was supposed to monitor the recent Haiti election but didn't probably thereby adding to his life span. Now gearing up for a trip to Europe, "Obe" will be telling them all about newspapers, a subject on which he's an expert more than somewhat, having owned several. He sold his last one in Arlington, Va., in 1988. He also taught for a while at the University of Maryland. A very busy man!
Received word that Charlie Duncan has stepped down as a director of TRW Inc. and Eastman Kodak. Not that Charlie did anything amiss—it's just that when you reach 39 or 50 they show you the door. Far as I know he's still a member of the U.S.-Iran claims tribunal. Jim Kennedy was recently honored as Chattanooga-area manager of the year. Jim is chairman of the board of several companies and received the award as "a staunch, faithful, and consistent advocate of the American free enterprise system, and a businessman with high ethical standards." Another example of the great class of 1946!
I keep reminding you of the 50th. Reg Pierce is setting up the reunion book and will be getting in touch with you. Chairman Jim von Rohr and his committee are working diligently to make this the finest. Be there!
