Just before leaving for a month in China, Professor Brewer Doran sent a fax asking me to let you know that she is hosting this year's Dartmouth Night mini- reunion. There is a Top of the Hop function with other classes on Saturday, October 21, but the real party is at Brewer's house, 15 Berrill Farms, Hanover (643-8868), after the bonfire on Friday, October 20. For more information, contact Brewer at work 716-239- 5669; fax 617-239-5020, home 617-239-7067, or e-mail doran@babson.edu.
Brewer is now an assistant professor at Babson College. Her trip this summer involved traveling through China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and was "part dissertation, part leading a trip of Babson MBA students"—and, I hope, part enjoying some of the finest food in the world.
Duncan M. Fitchet Jr., sent me a kind letter of condolence on the news of Jerry Garcia's death. Sandy and I hitchhiked to Boston one freshman-year weekend and somehow managed to get second-row seats to a Grateful Dead concert. It was a great concert and an epic weekend, matched only by the time John Beck drove a small group of us in his battered van from San Diego to San Francisco all night on I-5 to hear the Dead at the Fillmore.
Sandy has been living in Dallas, Texas, and working for GTE for a number of years. He has taken the plunge and is moving to Washington, D.C., to work for "a small, privately held telecommunications company which I and the rest of the management team hope to make a much larger telecommunications company." Sandy, spouse Jane, and daughter Margaret (nine years old) would be very pleased to hear from any '76ers in the D.C. area.
Jerry Daly spent a pleasant weekend last spring playing golf with Charlie Brumback. Charlie practices law in Orlando, and, Jerry-reports, "is so hooked on golf that he, his wife, Kim, and daughter Emily 3 live on the golf course adjacent to the eighth green." Jerry and Charlie teamed up for the Orlando Country Club's member-guest tourney and won $500 in prizes. When he is not playing golf or practicing law, Charlie is at center court rooting for the Orlando Magic. "He has owned season tickets since the franchise came to town and can only be described as a rabid fanatic fan."
Karen Louise Erdrich has written yet another fine book, The Blue Jay's Dance, a thought-provoking exploration of the human psyche prompted by her pregnancy and the birth of her third daughter. As always, this latest work came into the world accompanied by much critical praise and, as always, sold out quickly at the Juneau bookstore. There might be a copy near you; don't miss it.
If my calculations are right, this column should hit your mailboxes during the everearlier lead-up to the holiday season. My mailbox has been very light on alumni news the last few months. Please, please add me to your holiday mailing list and send news of yourself and classmates!
