Following a series of sales positions in the lumber and paper industry which took him to California, the Midwest, and Canada, DaveStrieker spent the next 25 years directing school and community youth programs. Dave became assistant to the head master at Blake School in 1961, then moved on to the Hopkins School, where he served in a number of directorship positions for development, the alumni, the Parents Club, public relations, and college admissions. In addition he chaired the scholarship committee, was editor of school publications, and coached freshman football and varsity basketball. Dave also coordinated the threeschool merger of Blake, Northrup, and Highcroft. He next served as director of the Dynamy program, an alternative education program he established at Macalester College in St. Paul. Dynamy allowed students to take a year off between high school and college to participate in Outward Bound, living on a college campus, earning room and board, and participating in various internships. In 1978 Dave joined the Boys Club of Minneapolis as executive vice president and became president of the Boys and Girls Club of Minneapolis three years later. Last fall he made another career change, becoming a sales representative with Roger Fazendin Realtors in Wayzata. Dave and wife Ginny, who attended our fall mini in Hanover, have been longtime residents of Lake Minnetonka, and Dave plans to stay active in school and community programs.
The Rev. George E. Bates, ninth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Utah since 1956, has announced his intention to retire for medical reasons. In the past several years George has had two total hip replacements and undergone radiation therapy for cancer of the larynx, which is now in complete remission. This last problem has caused the growing loss of his voice, and he is following medical advice to limit the use of his voice and perhaps move to a more humid climate. George received a Master of Divinity degree from Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge in 1958 and was ordained in 1959. He held acting-rector or rector assignments in Ithaca and Syracuse, N.Y., and Pendleton, Ore., and became rector at St. Marks on the Mesa parish in Albuquerque, N.M., in 1983. The bishop and his wife, Sue, are parents of two sons and a daughter and have four grandchildren. He has been a Rotarian since 1971, and has served on the boards of directors of a number of organizations. He has also served on the Episcopalian Church's convention committees that set national policy for the church. Because of the process of electing a successor, George's retirement date will not be for some time.

Obituaries will appear in a subsequent issue. I am also sorry to report the death of Myrna Aronson, wife of classmate Martin Aronson. The class extends its sympathy to Martin and his family.
