Operating on the theory that no news is good news I hope that you are well and enjoying life as you read this in midSeptember. As I write this, however, I am basking in the magnificent July weather of Boston's South Shore. Ocean waters are still a big chilly for us but will be warming soon. How about a most intriguing read? A sea story called The WineDark Sea, written by Patrick O'Brian, the most recent in the series about British Royal Navy Captain Jack Aubrey and his Irish/Catalan cohort, surgeon, and sometime spy Stephen Maturin. The setting is the Great South Sea in the early 1880s. I'm sure my old roommate Howie Thomas would enjoy this.

A book I'm currently enjoying is The Dartmouth Story by Robert R. Graham '40. It's the story of the College's origins in the 1700s and an anecdotal history. It is, as well, a guide to many of the points of interest on the campus. Keep in mind the mini-reunion to be held in Hanover October 11-13—the Holy Cross game. With sadness we report the death of Ed Lider.

That's it for this edition. Stay well and keep moving.
