Yes...I can see clear to the bottom of the mail bag and so, as promised, let's go back 55 years or so to find what our renowned secretaries of that era were saying about we '38ers...

1941—Ev Wood stationed at Norfolk, Va., wrote—"I'm training in those little 'Patrol Bombers' and practicing to drop a basket of forget-me-nots in the sergeant's tent. Oh yes, these new bomb-sighting arrangements are beautiful and accurate. With a little practice you can drop a gumdrop right in the baby's mouth at 20,000 feet." Among those seemingly invincible members of the U.S. Air Force, who are helping keep open the lifeline to China by ferrying supplies from India, is Lt. Carmelo Gugino of Buffalo, N.Y. Despite Japanese claims of having isolated China, and having forced the withdrawal of American air forces, Lt. Gugino and two other pilots got through safely with supplies not long ago, although the trip involved considerable 'hide and seek' in the clouds with a Jap 'zero.' Dutch Holland, who fell in love with the theater while an undergraduate and became a bright dramatic star in the Hanover firmament, is now taking a three-year course at the Yale Dramatic School and played the leading roles in Sidney Howard's psychological drama "The Silver Cord" at the Yale theater in December. Dutch is specializing in the technique of advanced acting and directing. Cornell Medical School had many well-known students, including Hank McDuff, Sheriff Gordon, BillMosenthal, and George Dana. The August 1942 issue of the Alumni Magazine listed the names of those in the service; 1938's list started with John J. Ahern, U.S.A.A.C., and ended with Everett W.Wood, U.S.N.A.C., for a total of 242.

And now back to the present—BobReno was honored by the N.H. Bar Association marking his 50th anniversary. Bob earned his law degree from Yale. After serving in the Marine Corps during WW II, he briefly practiced law in Illinois before returning to the Granite State. And so...until the fall—enjoy your summer, stay out of the hot sun, and let me know how your gardens grow!
