In June it is difficult to think of snow and remember what you did with it in January. Lew Chipman wrote in January that he and Janet had just returned from skiing in Woodstock, Vt. While north, they had brunch at the Exeter (N.H.) Inn with Ruth and BeezieSmallwood.

Lew and your secretary have a common problem—news for alumni columns. He wrote, "Since 1978 I have endeavored to obtain news and write a column for Dartmouth Medicine each quarter. Unfortunately, as the class becomes more decimated it becomes more difficult and a bit sad." Let us hear from you.

The Faunces participated in an Elderhostel on Hilton Head Island in February. Accommodations and classroom were located in the Holiday Inn Oceanfront so were able to enjoy great beach walking. Study subjects included "Hilton Head Island: Union Outpost During the Civil War," "Exploring Narrative Poetry," and "South Carolina Low Country Ecology." Visited with Dot Arwe between classes.

The next week was spent in Savannah attending an outstanding Elderhostel on Savannah Historical Journey and the eighth presentation of Savannah Onstage. Heard were medal winners from the most prestigious music contests around the world" and the Savannah Symphony Orchestra. The highlight of the week was the American Traditions Competition with prizes totaling $25,000. The competition featured male and female solo vocalists singing American music which included blues, jazz, spirituals, gospel, and twentieth-century Broadway songs. During the week 31 quarter-finalists, 13 semi-finalists, and six finalists sang outstanding American music. The week concluded with a wonderful jazz brunch on Saturday and Sunday. A great way to enjoy outstanding music in a lovely city and meet new friends.

While in Savannah had an opportunity to visit Betty and Dave Fish. They have been in the area for 14 years. No major worries about snow. On the way north, stopped with Bertie and Joe Bird. Saw them a year ago at the 55th but they missed the mini-reunion.
