A piercing, grinding sound filled my head. Sweat broke out all over my body. A large, very distorted face loomed over me rather ominously. Sharp shiny steel instruments poked at my gums and teeth. I could feel the pain as if it were my very own.
Consciousness left me as a warm, serene feeling overwhelmed my essence. I was ever grateful to realize that I was having an out-of-body experience induced by a call from our very own Craig Williams, southern Jersey's most illustrious caretaker of teeth. Dentists have a way of striking a nerve with me. Craig hangs his shingle in the bustling metropolis of Sewell and lives nearby with wife Yvette, daughter Courtney 3, and Craig Jr. 7. He is involved with interviewing prospective candidates for the College, but yearns for more contact with classmates. So if you're ever down Philly way, head a little farther south for some free laughing gas.
Peter "Rocky" Rockefeller's wife, Allison, sent a nice note announcing the birth of their third child, a daughter, Lily Whipple, born on February 13 at Columbia Presbyterian in New York. Lily joins her brother William 5 and sister Hall 3. Peter continues to enjoy his work in investment banking and corporate finance at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. What, no Rockefeller in the masthead? Soon, I'm sure. Chris "O.B." O'Brien was named director of planning for Solarex of Frederick, Md. He spends much of his free time giving tours of obscure Civil War haunts.
In other mover-and-shaker newsflashes: Chris Carstens was promoted to principal within the firm of Towers principal, based on recognition by clients and peers. He works out of the Stamford, Conn., office and should be quite proud.
Sometimes you just can't take the boy out of New England...
Brent Betit, of Putney, Vt., has held a variety of management positions at Landmark College since he joined the college staff in 1985. He was formerly director of the physical plant and facilities planning. He has assumed the newly created position of vice president for planning and operations.
In this new role, Brent is responsible for strategic planning, community and government relations, and administrative oversight of facilities development and planning. Makes me tired just thinking about it. For some reason the basement of some dorms and a towering smokestack behind New Hamp come to mind immediately. I always wanted to climb that thing.
Ric Katz has returned to the fold. After spending years in investment banking as managing director with Lehmann Brothers, Ric joins his father at General Builders Supply Cos. of Norwood, Mass., as president. He keeps busy otherwise with his wife and two kids.
Scott Somerville penned a provocative article on home schooling in the Amelia County (Va.) News Journal. He steadfastly maintains that home-schooled children tie their shoelaces, look people in the eye, and say, "Yes, ma'am." He goes on to say that homeschoolers have cracked the public school monopoly and American education will never be the same. Scott is a staff attorney at the Home School Legal Defense Association. He is married to Marcia Lawrence ('80) who teaches their six children at home. Way to be.
Our job would, of course, be a whole lot easier if we heard more from you beautiful people. Jim and I both have 800 numbers (if you haven't noticed), and more to the point, we wouldn't have to make so much of this stuff up. Have a great summer, and don't forget who loves you, Baby.
