This is being written as all of New England bears down in preparation for what's being called Tuna Bowl I—the Patriots (Bill Parcells' former team) versus the Jets (Parcells' current team). With that in mind, should I be surprised that I got a call this week from my MAIN MAN in the Big Apple, none other than Samir Desai. The NFL season never really truly begins until Sammy calls me to help him with his weekly picks for the office pool (which, of course, he does recreationally...no money involved), but for some reason the call didn't come until Week 3 this fall. Maybe the reason Sammy took so long is he's been getting settled. He left Cowen & Co. during the summer to join the Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Technology Investment Banking Group. He's still in New York, working the crowds at Shea Stadium and Madison Square Garden, but has made the move to Park Avenue the big time, baby!
Sammy's news came tie same day that I received a long correspondence from HollyJohnson, who wrote that in her pediatric residency at Seatde Children's Hospital, the hardest thing for her to remember is "learning to say that I am Dr. Johnson-Colt instead of Dr. Johnson." That's right, under the watchful eye of numerous Dartmouth friends, she got married in June to Ross Colt (DMS '94). The pair recently spent time in Korea. Holly had much news to report. Kathy Weigle completed her medical internship recently and is now in her first year of rehab medicine at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Kathy sees a lot of Walter Florence, one of many Dartmouth '92s who attend (or, in some cases, have attended) Northwestern's Kellogg Business School.
Holly also had news about people who live in the Land of Sam (a.k.a. New York City). liana Shulman is finishing law school at Columbia. According to Holly, liana recently attended the nuptials of AmyNauss. Amy, I expect news on this!
Wedding bells will soon be in the offing for yet another Big Apple resident, CarinaWong, who plans to marry Earle Allen '90 here in Hanover in the fall of 1998. I'll be sure to crash! Carina continues to work as a senior associate at Powell Tate. (Quick aside: how can any of us be senior associates? We're not even 30, for crying out loud! Oh, the world's going to hell in a handbasket...)
Being in the medicine business herself, Holly also had news on several other people looking to move into that profession. JohnBagnal, she reported, matched in Anesthesiology at Brigham & Women's and will do his first year out in California. Frantz Gibbs has opted for an ER residen- cy at Providence Hospital after spending a year working at a hospital in Chiapas, Mexico. And Adrianna Bravo is continuing her Pediatric residency at Johns Hopkins.
Finally, after much hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth well, OK, not really I have decided there is no other way to write what Holly had to say about MichelleBeaulieu. Thus, I leave it to Holly herself...
"By some random twist of fate, Michelle is living in Branford, Conn., employed as senior medical journalist (editor note: again, that senior thing!) in the medical news division of the Reuters news organization. In her usual incredible style, she has managed to write fulltime and pursue her master's fulltime at the University of Connecticut, where she's concentrating on child and adolescent health services. In her 'spare time' she is managing editor of a wellness letter at a local university. I've also heard stories about adventures in rock climbing, snowboarding (in Colorado), sailing, and watching rugby."
It's a good thing Holly qualified that last sentence with the Colorado thing. I've been to Storrs, Conn. home of UConn and from what I've seen there is no way rock climbing, snowboarding, and sailing are in the cards! Take care, everybody!
