My column this month is going to disappoint a lot of readers. To those of you who have been eagerly awaiting a follow-up of last month's on the doings of my grandchildren, I apologize. This month's news comes mostly with thanks to Ken Edelson, my colleague who writes the column for Tuck Today and allows me (to date, at least) to plagiarize freely from that. Ken writes that he and Jill had just returned from three weeks in South Africa. They did the two coastlines, the wine country, the desert, and the back country. "We had heard about the animals seen in Africa, but the personal thrill of 'hunting' them all in game preserves was really extraordinary."

Ken reports that Jim Myers, living in Palm Beach, still plays tennis four times a week and was about to visit Lee Sarokin in San Diego. Beth and John Schalles had visited Jack Van Zoeren in Pinehurst, N.C.,and he also plays tennis or golf almost every day. Jack says, "We consider ourselves dumb lucky to have landed here." Rosemary and Walt Lindenthal have Slowed down a bit in their business travels and consulting for Oshman's stores in Japan and Korea.

Alex Hoffman tells Ken he is heading a campaign to build a new fine arts museum in southern Vermont, "almost a fulltime job." He then went on to say that he and Twinks had been off skiing, were about to go to Alta for a week, and then were going for visits in Georgia and Florida.

This is your last DAM reminder for the '5O mini-reunion in Hanover over the weekend of October 16-18. It's the season for foliage, football, fun, frolic, and frivolity, and so give serious thought to attending. And, speaking of minis, remember the upcoming Florida bash at the Marriott Indian River Plantation in Stuart (just north of Palm Beach) on January 29-30. Last year's was a great success, and this year's is likely to top it for both numbers attending and conviviality. Come on down, y'all.

Later this month (July), your scribe and a son are going to a ranch in the Wyoming Tetons to fish and horseback ride. Before that Barbara and I are renting a house on Cape Cod for a week, and we happily anticipate the arrival of almost all our kids and grandkids from various parts of the country. I'll take good notes, and the report on that get-together will make for must reading in next month's column.
