A wonderful letter from Milt Hoefle, M.D., reassured me that at least some people read these notes. At times one wonders. Maybe the way to find out is to make a mistake in reporting a conversation. Some months back I reported that Milt's son, also a doctor, was president of the Optometrical Society of New York. Maybe I need a new hearing aid. His letter sets the record straight by informing me that his son, Frank B. Hoefle '57, DMS '59, and Harvard Med '61, is president of the New York Ophthalmologic Society. He also mentions in his letter that his wife, Peggy, was in charge of the operating room at Mary Hitchcock Hospital when he was a second-year med student at Dartmouth's two-year school. And that is how the romance started. Evidently they both have reason to be nostalgic about the good old days when Dartmouth was as we all remember it. Milt and Peggy celebrated their 62nd anniversary last year...a true Dartmouth romance.

Another misstatement, which Jerry Sass brought to my attention, was when I stated that hotel charges for self and accompanying family members would be paid. I should have said self and wife. For others there will be a nominal charge. Jerry says he has about 15 signed up at the moment.

This has been a bad period for us. Our wonderful treasurer, Jack Zellers, died November 29. Elly Jones died November 26, and George Pitts died December 9.
