As I write this, we are hunkering down for yet another New England winter storm, and I'm having second thoughts about passingup the '5O mini-reunion scheduled for January 23-26 in Stuart, Fla. I will find out how it goes and report on it in a later issue.
I'm sorry to have to report that Bob Lindell died of liver cancer in January. Among his fortes was the organizing of our class reunions, and Bob was hard at work as chairman of our upcoming 50th. On behalf of the class, I offer our sympathies to Pinky and Bob's family.
Charlie and Dodie Abbe are golfing-itup at their usual winter retreat (from New Hampshire's snow and ice) in Englewood, on the west coast of Florida. A note from Tom Sours says that he is at least semiretired now and lets his son do most of the running of the business. He and Jeanne are busy enjoying their grandchildren, all of whom still live nearby. Also from Ohio, Jim and Sally Farmer report that "year was fairly quiet and hips are in great shape" (knew that about Sally, but Jim?). They had a family Thanksgiving that included 22 kids of ages one to 16 (including Jim's brother's).
The year of 1997 saw our inveterate hikers, Johnny and Shirley Weber, doing their thing in New Mexico and Europe. They have 12 grandchildren, three of whom are in college. Also in Europe last summer were Jacques and Mary Harlow, who did a Danube River trip and visited many Central Europe cities. They also enjoyed two ski trips to Colorado, in January and May, and a fall visit to Michigan. Jacques finds work on the Ridgewood Town Council "exciting and rewarding."
A Christmas card showed two leprechauns photographed in front of a castle in Ireland, and they claimed to be Whit and Pris Williams. The Tredwells, Bob and Helen, made the inland passage trip to Alaska. Jim and Bobbie Birney had a mostly "family visits" kind of year. Jim had successful angioplasty for a blocked artery in December and is doing fine.
Before closing, here's a refrain you'll hear a lot in the coming months. Start thinking about what you want your bio to say in our 50th Reunion book. Work on the book is under way, and remember that many of your classmates want to hear what's been up with you as much as you want to hear about some of them.
Enjoy early spring.
