Since our last we have lost Ralph Bruce (March 13), Ralph Sperry (March 18), Fred Mowatt (April 9), Jud Foster (April 30), and George Mcllroy (May 16). Obits to follow in future issues.
The May Executive Committee meeting in NYC was primarily centered about the 60th Reunion plans. Lodging is to be either at The Lodge behind Hopkins Center, Middle Mass, Fayerweather, and/or the Hanover Inn if you get your bid in on time. Green, lightweight, all-weather jackets, with a white '39 emblem were voted for the uniform. Our co-chairmen Herb Hirschland and Doc Tower are angling for a top banquet speaker and a seminar with College dignitaries. No tent this year, as we will gather at the Hayward Lounge in the Inn.
Herb Mattlage was honored by Belmont Hill School, where he taught and coached for years: A new science laboratory was given his name. Herb also addressed the student body on Veterans Day with a stirring tale of his WWII experiences, starting with December 7, 1941, when he was assigned to the U.S.S. Arizona.
Bill "Ace" Bailey has been having some hip problems of late and when last heard from was recuperating in the hospital near his home in Tryon, N.C. Wayland "Ave" Avery writes from San Clemente, Calif., that although he has had to give up tennis for the nonce, he does get in a daily two to three-mile walk. Haas Warrener reports from Winchester, Mass., on a great trip to New Zealand and Australia this past February. Charlie Nichols writes that he was walking without a cane after a knee operation a month previous this past winter in Punta Gorda, Fla. Moreau Brown and wife Esther have moved back to San Francisco from Santa Rosa, happy to be back with friends and avoiding the extra hot weather to the south. He talked about another trip on the QE-2 to Paris. Wonder if they made it. Bob Nuffort dropped us a note just before taking off from Cape Coral, Fla., for the Twin Cities, Minn., for the summer. Bob and Miriam had some winter visits from son Bob Jr. '74 and family and daughter Barbara and husband.
Time enough to still make the minireunion on the September 18.
