I heard from DanielleShirley Furlich, my highschool classmate, via a wonderful, out-of-the-blue email this summer. She was married last year to Brandon Furlich (UVA '9l). Danielle wrote, "I have broken ranks with most of my sorority sisters by marrying outside Dartmouth (horrors!)." Apparently, the UVA vs. Dartmouth rivalry came to a head at the reception. Here's the playby-play in Danielle's words: "All the Dartmouth folks lined up for a picture and, being in such close quarters, spontaneously locked arms and sang the alma mater. Suddenly, across the room, all the UVA grads linked arms and launched into song as soon as we finished. Well, that required a retort with 'When the Backs Go Running By' (or whatever that song is called), which they then answered with some ridiculous rah-rah song of their own. It was a big sloppy display of some of the worst singing you'll ever hear. The DJ hardly knew what hit him."

Lots of '91s were in attendance: Ann and Tom Repczynski, Liz Chung, GailGarron, Chad Anderson, PatrickFitzgerald, Mitch Epner, Jay Matson, and Barbara Ucasz Fiaco. Danielle is working as an independent writer and editor for various nonprofit and corporate clients.

Dartmouth was also well represented at the Hanover nuptials of Katy Jozus and Jeff Mooney on June 26. Katy, who happily jogged the golf course route the morning of the wedding, says it was a great reunion of Dartmouth friends, including Lissy CarterRooney, Karin Markey Jonas, DiannaGoldberg, Tricia Paik, Heather MillerCoons, Cori Herlihy, Lorli Hardigg, LizaHartmann, Carrie Heinonen, DavidLack, and Laurie Gill.

Tracy Kavanaugh Walsh was also married in Hanover this year on May 22 at the Aquinas House, with a reception at the Dowd's Inn in Lyme to Rob Walsh '88 Tracy says there was a great crowd spanning over three decades of Dartmouth classes, from 1963 to the 2000s. Julie Davis and Carol Bertucci Spindler served as two of Tracy's best women. Tracy is the coordinator for academic services at the White River Junction site of the Community College of Vermont, and Rob is a cross-country ski racer with the U.S. Disabled Ski Team.

Laura Gadd is hard at work remodeling a home she bought in San Francisco's Mission District with the help of her girlfriend, Buzz, a carpenter. Laura, or "Ed," as she was known around campus, earned her M.B.A. from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University in May 1998. She now works as a consultant for Price Waterhouse Coopers' Management Consulting Services in the telecom industry, strategy practice.

And on the baby front, Jonathan Ruhl reports that he and wife, Diana CadedduRuhl, are the proud parents of Jonathan Sloan Ruhl, born Dec. 2, 1998. Jonathan calls him an "absolute joy." He reports that Kelly Blasius Rnudsen and her husband, Eric, also have an addition to their family, Nicholas Rnudsen, born in May.

Stay tuned for the next issue, when I'll report on what the class of '91 (or some of us anyway) are doing to ring in the year 2000.
