Lots to tell from long ago...Reunion required interruption from the regular mail flow, but now I'm getting back to pre-June news (though I welcome more Reunion updates). The most important letter I received was one from CristyWalker, who has been working with the Jefferson Foundation, a private organization founded to support the Jefferson County School District in the wake of the Columbine tragedy. Cristy has arranged to gather donations for a long-term counseling fund that will assist Columbine families with the costs of long-term therapy. If you are interested in making a charitable donation, please make it payable to: Jefferson Foundation Columbine Counseling Fund, Attn: Cristy Walker, 640 Davis St. #51, San Francisco, CA 94111. Donations of any amount are gready appreciated, but should be sent in by Dec. 1, 1999.
Alison LeBoeuf sent me another update back in March. At the time, she was planning to move from Jackson Hole to San Diego—hope you made it, Alison! She was also hoping to convince Greg Ferris to relocate as "I feel his job in N-Y.C. is getting old and he needs a change of pace." SpencerStevens was still in Jackson working for a biotech firm, as was Craig Gorton, who was teaching skiing for the winter before going back to his sailing gig. Alison randomly ran in to Randy Tennant on the slopes one day; he was vacationing from his new home base in L.A. Byy the time this issue hits the press, Kiley Barnhorst and Rick Mac Donald will be newlyweds, as they were planning a September wedding in San Diego. Alison saw Colleen Linehan in Chicago, where she is attending Kellogg. Alison also writes that Sarah Thomas is in Boston attending grad school at Tufts. Thanks for the continued updates, Alison!
I received an e-mail from Brenda Barrett letting me know that Laura Jones is working on her residency in internal medicine at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago—she must be in her second year by now. KamilaDansinghani e-mailed me just before her graduation from Harvard last spring. Kamila graduated with an M.D./M.P.H., and will now spend a year on a cancer prevention fellowship funded by the National Cancer Institute and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. "I have decided that ultimately, public health (and academic research/teachdegrees ing) is my area of interest," writes Kamila, "so I'll spend next year applying to doctoral programs in public health." Though tired of educational debt, Kamila is relieved to have finally found her 'niche.' I'm relieved for you myself, Kamila if I had three post-graduate and still felt unsure about my future, I might want to ask for my money back. Either that or I'd consider moving to a shack in Montana. But I sincerely doubt either of these problems will plague you!
Now for lots of news from MarcelinoGarcia, who also wrote to me in the spring. After graduating from Northwestern Law in '97, he spent a year traveling back and forth between Puerto Rico, Spain, and Chicago. He now works for a non-profit in the inner city, helping the indigent with legal services. Marcelino reports that there are many '94s in Chicago land: he saw Michelle Davies, Josh Heikkila, Colleen Linehan, and Ken Bower at a reception for President Wright. Nancy Coffee is still there, working for the Council on Foreign Relations, and is now engaged to be married! Steph McMichael is still with Leo Burnett. As for fellow Northwestern Law grads, Marcelino mentions CathyBirkeland, Mario Esposito, StevenSklaver, and Brad Hise. He also has lots of updates on some non-Chicago '94s, but that will have to wait until next time. At the risk of sounding repetitive and unsubtle, I leave you with these words: Please write.
