Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Recently an employee of Dartmouth College appeared with Regis on the popular show. Dartmouth received notoriety as the contestant raved about the College at every opportunity. Not that we need any publicity—with class of 1994 Jay Fiedler's performance for the Miami Dolphins this past fall, we heard "Dartmouth" every weekend. The Dartmouth employee walked away with a half million dollars.
So...let's see how you fare on an 'Bos rendition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
Are you ready to play?
For 100 "greenies": What is the nickname for the state of New Hampshire, home of Dartmouth College? Is it A) the big green state, B) house of many rocks, C) the granite state or D) the lone voice in the wilderness state? Is that your final answer? Yes, you're right, the granite state is the correct answer. That was a tough one. As a Dartmouth alum, all of those answers were possibilities.
For 200 "greenies": What is the name of the newly elected president of the class of '80? Is it A) Hillary Clinton, B) MegCoughlin LePage, C) Ed McNierney or D) Merle Adelman? Wow, Regis, this is really difficult. I hear these names all the time. Hmmm, you know, Ed McNierney had a real knack for technology. I think he's our new Webmaster. Meg Lepage was promoted to president of the presidents. That leaves Hillary and Merle, both real possibilities. I always associate Merle with money. I think she had the better financial backing. I'm going with Merle Adelman. D,That's my final answer.
YES. You're right again.
For 500 "greenies": What is the name of Dartmouth's cafeteria? Is it A) Thayer, B) the Hopkins Center, C) Lou's or D) Hood? This IS easy. I still have my "Thayer layer." The answer is A, Thayer.
That's it! The questions get a little tougher now as you play for the big "greenies."
I'm ready for 1000 "greenies," Regis.
Which classmate finished the New York marathon in November at 3:55:56? It was her first time running the New York. Was it A) Kerstin Sonnerup, B) Marty Peterson, C) Sally Nutt VanLeeuwen or D) Susan Green Spagnola? This is much tougher, Reg. Let me think. Susan does a lot of running, mostly to chase us for our class dues. Marty is probably still out of breath from running our 20th reunion. Kerstin was a great athlete in college. Her strength was cross-country skiing, though, so I'm going with C, Sally Nutt VanLeeuwen. Both she and her sister Susie Nutt '81 had to do a lot of running to keep up with their dad Robert '49. That's my final answer. C. Wow. You're right. We have time for one more question. Are you ready? Here it is. Which member of the class of 1980 is currently a senior associate at the firm of Watson, Stevens, Silirlla, & Rutter in New Jersey? Is it A) Todd Taylor B) Leslie-Ann Marshall Justus, C) Faye Grearson or D) Susan Getzendanner?
Gosh, Regis, they're getting more difficult. I can think this one through. Todd Taylor recently relocated to Florida to live with Mickey Mouse and Cos. I doubt he'd consider changing careers. Faye Grearson married Jamie Orr, the son of our class friend David Orr '57. They live in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and are happy to be near family and friends. Joel and Sue Getzendanner relocated to the state of Washington. It wouldn't be unusual for them to have moved again, but New Jersey? That leaves Leslie-Ann. B is my final answer.
Yes. That's it for 2,000 "greenies!" We're out of time but we'll be back to play for a million.
