Paul Nugent has checked in from Pittsfield, Mass. He is a systems engineer for a defense contractor and last summer completed his Ph.D. in organizational studies from SUNY Albany. He and his wife keep busy with daughter Andie 4 and son Ben 2.

Last fall Mike Portland was promoted to vice president of planning and development for Ashland Chemical Cos. He has principal responsibility for managing the company's merger and acquisition program and strategic planning process, including developing the company's annual operating and capital budgets. He also continues to oversee the marketing department. Mike joined Ashland in 1996 from McKinsey & Cos.

Class vice president Tracey SalmonSmith is keeping very busy. She was married to Loyston Smith in 1997, and the couple welcomed daughter Avery last August. Laurie Lopes was the maid of honor at the wedding (she's also Avery's godmother), and Michelle Wright, mentioned in a recent column, was also in the wedding party. Other classmates in attendance were KimHinton, Shawn Pennick-Benton, and Hermann Mazard. Notably absent was Tayrn Gude, who had just given birth to a baby boy. Tracey is still faming over the "idiot photographer" who, despite explicit instructions, forgot to get a picture of all the Dartmouth folks at the wedding. Tracey is now back to work at the U.S. Attorney's office in New York after a five-month maternity leave. She is also serving as the president of the Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association.

Anne Maury Lawrence Stephan sent word that she was married August 23 to longtime partner John Stephan. Greg and Lynn Tracy Nerland '86 were the Dartmouth representatives in attendance. I received another wedding report from Teresa Polenz Delaney. She married Blake Delaney last August in Greenwich, Conn., in a ceremony officiated by the groom's father, Forbes Delaney '43. Teresa received her J.D. from Columbia Law School and is a corporate associate with Hughes Hubbard & Reed in New York. Her husband is in advertising sales for Crain Communications. Here is Teresa's report on the various classmates who attended the wedding:

"Alison Mason received her M.B.A. from NYU and then escaped (her words) to San Francisco, where she is a vice president for Union Bank of California. Karen Clarke is the director of finance strategy and planning for Mac Temps Inc., a temporary employment agency for, as Karen describes it, 'creative, content professionals' based in Boston. Jill Van Winegarden married David Nix in 1995. They live with their daughter Meredith in Oakland, Calif., where Jill works for Providian Financial, a credit-card provider. Karen Hill recently left CNN after seven years as a guest booker for numerous programs and joined Salomon Smith Barney as a broker in Atlanta. Deborah 'Duke' Stone works in New York for ABC News as an associate producer. Her pieces have appeared on John Stossel's special reports and 20/20. Carrie Mitchum is an actress living in Los Angeles with her two children. Unable to attend was KathyKinney, who is a labor lawyer in Malibu, Calif. She works from home while raising her daughter Julia. She is married to Laird Landmann '86."

Finally, Pam Haering has left her job as vice president of global client solutions at Turner Broadcasting for a very high-profile position with CBS. In November she was named senior vice president of CBS Plus, a newly formed corporation-wide cross-media sales unit that designs customized, consumer-driven media and marketing programs for advertisers. This coordinated approach will give advertisers access to the entire CBS organization, including the CBS television network, the CBS television station group, CBS/Infinity Radio Stations, CBS yemark, CBS Cable, TDI, and CBS New Media.
