Bob Asher is a co-author of a short, well-illustrated 1999 book entitled A Family of Artists: Bonnie Harris, Eleanor Harris, Marike Harris Shapiro. It describes the lives and careers of three remarkably innovative, Chicago-born, twentieth-century female artists, one of whom (Marilee) is Bob's wife. The book is published by Pogo Press of St. Paul, Minn. Following surgery for three by-pass arteries and the pig valve replacement for his failed aorta valve, Charlie Schneider spent eight months recovering in Scarsdale at his son's residence. In 1998 his son's family and Charlie moved to Santa Barbara, where Charlie was recendy accepted at the Vista del Monte retirement community, (805) 879-7682; .

Replying to my note of condolence, Henrietta-Rubin Frieser wrote that Sid had died on May 6, 1999. in N.Y. Hospital of Queens after a long illness peripheral neuropathy. He was 89 years old, always very brave, never complained, and was so proud to be a son of Dartmouth. A class stalwart, he'll be missed.

Spence Miller wrote that he'd had a bad case of break-in and vandalism at his place in Vermont. Insurance will cover some of the loss. This sort of behavior is getting to be frequent all over the country, and no one seems to be able to explain the reasons for it.
