Rick Wild, doctor-airborne soldier-lawyer, is once again in career transition. He is leaving the clinical practice of emergency medicine in Rhode Island to begin new business pursuits. Rick is involved in two pharmaceutical start-up companies and is continuing to consult in medical legal cases. Last January he began traveling to N.Y.C. eveiy other weekend to participate in Columbia Business School's 19-month executive M.B A program. Spouse Anne Spaulding continues to serve as medical director for the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, specializing in the management of infectious diseases in correctional environments.

Fred Skillern, a member of the Denver law firm of Isaacson, Rosenbaum, Woods & Levy, P.C., got in touch with me recently to check up on his nephew who lives in the Albany, N.Y., area and is a candidate for Dartmouth's class of 2004. For classmates who have college-bound children or who are in the alumni interviewing business, I recommend reading A Is for Admission by Michele Dogin Hernandez '89, a former admissions officer at Dartmouth. The book, now available in paperback, is a very detailed analysis of Ivy admissions practices and procedures.

Dave Wender, a physician in Jackson, Miss., sent a note with news about daughter Megan, a soccer-playing junior at Brown who is considering a teaching career. Son Matt is a freshman at Mississippi State and is studying mechanical engineering. Son Danny is a junior in high school and is convinced about the benefits of higher education after working last summer in construction. Spouse Maggie is working part-time in nursing and full-time as mother to son Conner (13) and daughter Mollie, who are still in elementary school.

European holiday greetings came from Joost van Nispen (vannisp@attglobal.net), who is an international computer consultant living in and working out of Spain. From the Eternal City, Jon Cooper, a management consultant and businessman, writes that his restaurant in Rome, Asinoccotto, is full every night and has won several prestigious awards. Jon's partner and the restaurant's chef, Guiliano, won the Bib Gourmand for the best quality for price in Italy from the Michelin Guide and the Oscar for the best quality for price in Rome from the GamberoRosso, Italy's most important restaurant guide. Kevin O'Shea, an attorney in Elmira, N.Y., has left private practice to work for a former client as director of human resources and employee relations for the Elmira City school district. He continues to do die district's legal work and is negotiating its five major labor contracts. Kevin is married to "Judge Judy" Ferrell O'Shea, an Albany Law School classmate, who was elected last fall as the first woman N.Y. Supreme Court (civil trial) justice in her judicial district, where she previously served as a Family Court Judge in Chemung County.
