Let's start off this month with some news about fellow '96s who made the press pages. The Conway Daily Sim mentions that Heather Miles, who is a Department of Defense-certified Arabic linguist, is currently in Kuwait working as a translator for the Kuwait Ministry of Defense. Kudos to Heather, who made history by being the first woman to have ever been admitted to the Ministry of Defense.
Another '96 in the news is Phil Hanaka. The Worcester Sunday Telegram mentions that Phil, a newly minted Northeastern University School of Law graduate, recently joined Mirick O'Connell, in Worcester, Mass., as an associate in the labor and employment law department. Phil had clerked the summer before at Dwyer & Collara, LL.P., in Boston. Doing good work as well is Mike Schuster, who spent the earlier part of this year on the Asian continent. Mike was in India where he was doing research on infectious diseases. Mike is currently a University of lowa Medical School student and will be finishing up his studies this year. Another '96 on the doctor trail is my D.O.C. trip buddy Jason Ferries, one half of one of the five sets of twins in our class. Jason just started medical school at the University of Connecticut this year, after completing a master's in public health at Boston University last year. Jason's twin, Alex, on the other hand, will be starting B school in September. Alex is currently working and living in Syracuse. He says there are only a few '96s in Syracuse, including Sharon Lee, who is up there attending medical school. Alex also tells me he keeps in touch with his old squash teammate EricHwang, who is a technical trainer for a software company and on the road a lot.
Even though we both live in the same city, I haven't been able to meet up with Shawn Snipes. Shawn's been quite busy with her new job. After her exciting stint working as Martha Stewart's executive assistant, Shawn left and went into the media and advertising business. She is currently working for Mediavest, a DMB&B agency.
Well, that's it for this month. Be sure to drop me a line (or two) with any news you want to share for the next month.
