As you know, the class of 193 8 has a scholarship fund to recognize and assist two needy Dartmouth students each year. I thought you would be interested in learning of some of the accomplishments of our '38 scholars. Also, for your information, George Kingsbury reported that, as of October 1999, our scholarship fund had a book value of $61,736, and a market value of nearly $180,000.
Nii Sai Sai '97 graduated from the engineering program with a GPA of 3.59 and is currently employed with Price-Water house in Tampa, Fla.
Christopher Holden '99, grandson of Parker Holden, graduated this past June with a GPA of 3.75. His major was mathematics and his minor was education. While in college he was active in the Glee Club, worked with the sports information office as a statistician and acted as a teaching assistant for education and math courses. He is now working with the Pantheon Group, a management and strategy-consulting firm in Boston.
Adam Milliken, our scholar in the class of '02, is a grandson of Bob Milliken, and his other grandfather is George Recke '44. He continues to maintain a GPA of 3.85 and is majoring in engineering sciences and is seriously considering a minor in studio art.
For the class of 2003, the Financial Aid Office has selected Jauren Gee from Rockaway, N.J. She has a 4.0 GPA from Villa Walsh Academy. She was on the honor roll for all four years of high school and was a Spanish Honor Society member, placing fifth and 11th in the national Spanish examinations in 1997 and 1998, respectively. She was involved in various literary publications and music groups. Over the summer months she attended Rutgers University's Douglas Science Institute for Women in Math, Science and Engineering. As she begins her Dartmouth experience, she plans to be involved with service clubs and news publications.
And now for a class statistic many of you have been asking about. As of September 9, 1999, the College reported we had 213 grads and 78 non-grads alive and kicking, for a total of 291 classmates! Since that date we have lost nine more classmates, the latest being Ben Ames Williams, reducing the number to 282.
Think spring!!!
