The department of transportation of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania— PennDOT—has informed me that they have received medical information which indicates that I am subject to physical/mental conditions which can prevent me from safely operating a motor vehicle on the highways in this state. Accordingly, I am directed to return my Pennsylvania drivers license to PennDOT at once.

Complying with this directive, and being without the use of my own automobile, I find to be neither a repugnant nor burdensome condition. In my walker I can get to the many activities of this retirement community, Luther Crest. I can do my chores, and useful, accessible services abound nearby—bank, grocery, post office, etc.

I do not drive at night, and have plenty of friends who see to it that I get to lunches, golf matches, picnics, holiday gatherings, etc., as I happen to be the oldest living retiree from Air Products and Chemicals Inc. I sold my 1986 Oldsmobile, and am not concerned about car insurance, inspection, parking and maintenance any more. I keep busy writing class notes to DAM and Phillips Exeter Academy. Every other month for the Crest Chronicle, our in-house magazine, I write an article about happenings in the good old days. The foregoing is enough about me. From Coach Lyons I received the list of freshmen recruited this year. Most impressive.

I regret having to report the losses of Charlie Dwyer, Charles Mumma, Frank Cornell and Pete Peterson.
