"Our February vacation in Florida was not a pleasant one, as Nina spent 10 days, after a successful heart surgery, in the hospital and we had to call off a luncheon date with Anne Shea, wife of our late classmate "Babe." She sounded good, was in fine health and we look forward to seeing her next winter.

We read in one of February's issues of U.S.A.Today that the United States is hopeful of winning two medals in the next Olympics in skating. Jack Shea (two-time skating champion in the 1932 Olympics) has a grandson Jim Shea, who is ranked No. 1 in the world and has medaled in two of the three World Cups this season. The 1999 world champion also has proven himself on home soil, winning the inaugural Goodwill Games in his hometown of Lake Placid a year ago.

Congratulations to our classmate John F. Anderson, who has done such a fine job as chairman of the Tower Society, which he founded in 1976. The cost of publishing Tower Tidings is financed by a special fund set up for this purpose by him. The society increased its giving limit to $2,000 and at the close of the last fiscal year raised almost $1 million from 357 members, which helped drive the annual fund to a new all-time record of $1,441,678.

It is with sadness that we report the deaths of Fred Rath and Carl Vail. Our sympathies are extended to their families.
