We timed our return to Hanover from Moosehead to be here for Class Officers Weekend and the dedication of the Richard W. Black Community and Senior Center. ("Blinker" Black, to our classmates.)
The town of Hanover had for years wanted such a center, and town officers did a great deal toward the start of it.
After Dick died, Katie wanted to do something for Hanover in his memory, and gave a substantial gift toward the center. She knew it would please Dick that the gift would be used to benefitpeopleof all ages. They had made Hanover their retirement home, and were both actively involved with Dartmouth and their church, as well.
The agenda for September 6 started at 8:30 with a pancake breakfast served by the Hanover Lions Club, then various events and the opening ceremony and dedication at 11 a.m.
Unfortunately, Katie was not there to take part or cut the ribbon as she had been brought to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center that morning with probable pneumonia. After wnting this I talked with Katie at the hopsital, where she was having wonderful care.
As always, the class secretaries meetings were helpful, faring information. All agreeing there couldn't be much of a column without classmates sending us news—please!
Rip adds:
"I'm moved to make some critical remarks On items such as particles and quarks And things infinitesimally small As not to seem to be alive at all Why don't they measure love, for goodness knows The more we use it up the more it grows."
