We read an article in Vox of Dartmouth November 18, 2002, about "Baker-Berry Library, Carson Hall Dedicated." The expansion of Baker Library and the construction of Carson Hall—Berry's west wing and the history department's new home—was made possible by major gifts from Russell Carson '65 and his family; Carl Hess in honor of Robert Michelet; and Marianne and David Spalding '76. Pictured in a color photo was our classmate Sam Carson with his son, Russell, and Alice. Congratulations to both Sam and Carl Hess.

In case any of you winter sports enthusiasts are wondering whatever happened to Jim Shea Jr., a gold winner in skeleton in our last Olympics, we have the latest info. Jim (grandson of Jack Shea, our late classmate who was a two-time gold winner in the 1932 Olympics), had only 50 percent blood flow in his leg during the games but did not reveal the injury. After the games he had vascular surgery. The 61/2-hour procedure required 400 stitches inside his left leg. While getting ready for the second half of the World Cup circuit, he blew out his scar on a run down the ice in late October and doctors told him to take the year off. Reluctandy, he did. You are a gutsy kid and we admire you.

With sadness we report the deaths of John Anderson, Stuart Barber, William Carr, Robert Gallagher, William Hackley and Daniel Schuyler. Our sympathies to their families.
