Greetings! Thanks to Amy Gillenson, who supplied me with some personal news. Amy reported that she and Jim Fornari (MIT '69) were married on June 27 this year in New York. Carolyn Kohn was in attendance and toasted the couple and Amy and Carolyns friendship born in Hanover so long ago. Jim is a Dartmouth parent, Matthew Fornari '95. Amy and Jim honeymooned starting with the Tour du Mont Blanc and continued hiking through French, Italian and Swiss passes and trails, followed by a week in Sardinia. Amy is making career changes, having left her job as director of development for Cardozo Law School and is exploring alternatives. They are living in her apartment in N.Y.C. while looking for a house in Lakeville, Connecticut. They welcome news and visits from old friends passing through N.Y.C. or northwestern Connecticut.
The College forwarded news from Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine, that Carl Little is editing Discovery:Fifty Years of Craft Experience at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, a compilation of narratives written by a wide range of Haystack faculty and student artists. The contributors describe the influence Haystack has had on their work and their lives.
Also from the College comes news that Thomas C. McConnell has been named as general partner of Vanguard Ventures, a venture capital firm with offices in Palo Alto, California, and Houston, specializing in seed and early-stage technology investments. Tom has played key roles in the venture capital community at large for 19 years, including president of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists from 1995-1996 and chairman of the National Venture Capital Association in 2001-2002.
The Westport (Connecticut) News reported that George Jepson, chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee in Connecticut, was featured at a forum spon- sored by the Democratic Women of Westport and the Westport Democratic Town Committee on April 18 of this year. The forum, titled "Restore American Democracy and Our Worldwide Image," involved other speakers and discussion as well.
The College also forwarded a Reuters article from May 17 highlighting Gus Sauter's thoughts on proposed changes by the Securities & Exchange Commission. Gus is chief investment officer at Vanguard and also has been an advocate for market reform.
My wife and I just returned from a quick trip to New England, visiting family and a few friends. During the trip we managed to catch up with Wendy Simila Snickenberger and husband Walt Snickenberger. They were getting ready to send their oldest son, Alex, off to Boston College, where he'll be playing golf. Good to see them and their family.
Best wishes to those hitting the big 5-0 this year and to those who already have. Don't be bashful about sending news. E-mail is painless and quick. Help me out.
