Hail, fellow '72s well met! Although I write this a few days before Christmas, by the time it reaches you the holidays will be but a memory. A peaceful, pleasant time I hope it was for all!
Since last we gathered I've heard from Young Dawkins, president of the University of New Hampshire Foundation, serving on the board of directors of a local homeless shelter and "living the good life in beautiful, old Portsmouth, New Hampshire."
Young recently dined with Ken McGill, recently retired from a long, productive career in the Social Security Administration. Ken still intersperses consulting with ample golf outings at this "vacation/golf palace on the North Carolina shore." His daughter, Sarah, is a junior at Wake Forest.
And from Bill Price I learn that he and Mike Sack held a mini-mini-reunion at Mike's Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, home. Mike and Sandi and kids Jacob, Myra and Leah hosted Bill before he kicked off a new Driva Solutions client west of Philly. Sadly, with the delightful dinner and early morning run Bill missed seeing the family frog, whose name, according to Mike, "is Maxi (or Mini). One died; we're not sure which." Mike's doing all sorts of things including developing the "Digital Media" program for inner city students around Philly to learn terrific skills producing mixed media shows. Bill's new client wants him back (always a good sign), so he and Mike will keep the South Fayerweather fires burning in future reunions.
Some class business, gents. Your executive committee met by conference call on Wednesday, December 17. Anyone who'd like the complete minutes should contact me, but in this space I'll try to touch upon some highlights. John Rockwell will detail more in his missal.
Chip Carstensen advises that our financial standing, while not dire, could stand some help. We've not increased our dues since 1997 and we are currently well below the other classes in our era. Your committee is recommending a modest increase to give us some latitude in funding our projects and operating expenses. We'd like to hear from you on this before making a firm decision, though. Chip tells us that the number of dues paying class members hovers fairly consistently between 320 and 340 brothers. We'd certainly like to "up" those numbers, too. C'mon guys—I know you're out there!
We also discussed at some length both another mini-reunion and the upcoming 35th in 2007. To the former, quite a few of us will turn 55 in 2005, so we're soliciting input on a possible class birthday party, perhaps in a location more accommodating to those of you who are "west of the Mississippi." Looking ahead to our 35th, we are asking you to weigh in on the issue of dates (early to midweek vs. late week/weekend), and if housing needs to be on campus or if reasonably nearby off-campus accommodations with adequate transportation would be acceptable. Please give us your thoughts.
Until next time! Your humble scribe, always proudly wearing the Green,
