I would like to remind MALS alumni that the MALS Alumni Associations annual lunch and meeting will be held on Wednesday, july 7, in the Hayward Lounge at the Hanover Inn. The event is scheduled for noon, with astronomy professor Marcelo Gleiser as our guest speaker. Suzanne Nothnagle (MALS '97) has accepted the new position of administrative coordinator at the Norwich Historical Society. Suzanne also works as the educational coordinator of the Woodstock Historical Society. She will work at the Norwich Historical Society's new headquarters, on Main Street, two days a week. The headquarters combines the historical society and the Norwich Community Center. Suzanne's vision is to involve the people of Norwich with all aspects of the town's history. Volunteers are needed for many tasks. Call (802) 649-0124 if you are interested in exploring some new opportunities.

Phil Morphew (ECS '98) was recently elected to the board of directors for the American Health Quality Association (AHQA). He has served on both the board and executive committee of AHQA, which is the national trade organization for Medicare quality improvement organizations. He is employed as executive representative for Health Care Excel (HCE) in Indianapolis, Indiana. HCE is the Medicare quality improvement organization for Indiana and Kentucky. Phil served as president and CEO of HCE from 1980 to 2001, when he retired and joined the Peace Corps to do HIV/AIDS work in Zimbabwe. He rejoined HCE in 2002 and continues to be involved in programs in Zimbabwe while working for health care quality improvement at home.

Dr. Gerard Silvestri (ECS '96) is cofounder of Alveolus, a medical device startup in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a mission statement to become the leading provider of stent technology in the emerging field of non-vascular interventional stenting. While serving as a board member of the company, Gerard is also an associate professor of medicine and a pulmonologist at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is triple board certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine and pulmonary medicine. His pulmonary training was completed at Dartmouth, and he is recognized as an expert on lung cancer.

I have an update on Joni B. Cole (MALS '95). Last year Joni helped compile and edit This Day,Diaries from American Women. She and her collaborators have closed a deal to bring out another ThisDay book. It is scheduled for release in the fall of next year.
