Another beautiful Commencement has passed. A fine weekend for the class of '04, and class of '54 at their 50th reunion. Jeff Immelt '78, head of General Electric, received an honorary degree as well as being the Commencement speaker. He sent the seniors off into the "working world" with an optimistic message.
The classes of' 29, '34 and '39 will be reuning October 8,9 and 10, and there will be more information forthcoming.
Howe Library in Hanover is having a capital campaign, and last month the Valley News featured a picture and support statement by Trunkie's widow, Ruth Brittan, a longtime volunteer at Howe.
Willy Black—Hanover icon—writes about bygone and present happenings in town. She recently shared a memory told her by Charlie Dudley about the old Nugget. One night being late for the show, he was almost knocked unconscious by an apple thrown along with peanuts from the balcony. This was a nightly event, and I remember my late husband, Larry Lougee, telling of being pelted with peanuts as he was playing the piano.
A group of Hanover residents finds reasons to object to most of Dartmouth's plans for future building. This led our esteemed friend, Don Goss '53, to point out in the Valley News: "No one says that Dartmouth College is a great institution because it is located in Hanover, New Hampshire. Many people say that Hanover is a great town to work and live in because it is the home of Dartmouth College."
To end these notes: "Your Rip has some thoughts that he garbles, (Though some are much better than fair) He seems to have all of his marbles, But some are a little bit square."
