As I write this (April tax time) Louise and I have just returned from a 10-day visit to Cape Cod to assess winter havoc from the Blizzard of 2004, which was mainly tree damage due to 80-mile-per-hour winds. Our Dennis neighbor, a weather authority, told us 2004-05 broke a 102-year-old record for snowfall! The upside of the short visit was an evening dinner at the home of Anne and Bing Donaldson and a tennis doubles game with Bing as partner (we won). A recent telephone call to the Donovan homestead and brief chat with Ruth produced information about Charlie that was news to me. His dad was a major league ballplayer who at one time managed the Red Sox while Charlie himself, as a prep schooler, showed George Bush, the elder, how to play first base! By the way, my wife is taking credid for the Red Sox World Series success—Louise having paid her first visit to Fenway Park last August. Bob Ehinger, on return from winter digs in Vero Beach, wrote of classmates seen by he and Joan during their Florida stay. They included Thirsa and Bob Fuiks, whose home escaped serious damage from the Florida hurricanes, and Rose and Tom McManus, who were luncheon mates at an affair addressed by President Jim Wright. Buddy Teevens' return to take over the football prograpm was one of the topics of interest. Also at the luncheon were Richard Pechter '75, a Vero Beach cardiologist and son of Mort and Alese Pechter, and Chuck Richardson '44, brother of our late classmate, Fred. Just to rub it in for those of us who stay north in the winter, Bob had to add that he played a lot of golf and tennis while in Vero. One death to report since the last column, Dick Lonagcre. Our condolences to his family. Date reminders: June 9, Cape mini with a guest speaker for the first time! Fall mini, September 30 to October 2; Penn the opponent. Stay well!
