Pete Webster, our class president, rounded up a few members of the executive committee on a conference call on August 5. George Roundtree, Tim Dreisbach and I discussed the affairs of our class. Tim, our head agent, stated that we hit our goal for the Alumni Fund and surpassed it by $340,071, which maintains our record of breaking the "year out" dollar goal every year since graduation. Tim, who now is living in Hanover, suggested a class project consisting of a self-guided tour of significant points of interest around campus, with each site being identified with a discreet class of 1971 plaque. Any other ideas on class projects are welcome and should be conveyed to Charlie Johnson, our class projects chairman, or sent to me and I will forward them to Charlie. George, our class treasurer, informed us that we are financially solvent. We all agreed on keeping the class dues at their present level of $60 and to continue to send the increasingly more expensive Alumni Magazine to all classmates, even the 57 percent who do not currently pay their dues. Our dues participation rate has been dropping (from 44.7 percent to the current 43.1 percent), and I cannot stress how important it is, for those ofyou who have not paid your class dues, to send in your $60. Our expenses are, increasing and, with our participation rate dropping, it will be more difficult to fund our class projects and will continue to cut into our dwindling surplus.

Jack Burnett, wife Diane and son Christo pher dropped in to see us on their way back home to New Hampshire.Jack is working hard to get Beta reinstated as an on-campus fraternity but the College has not been too cooperative. It seems that the College does not mind that there is one less fraternity on campus, even though there are a number of students interested in reviving the chapter. We were joined for a Sunday afternoon barbecue by Bob Augello and his wife, Joan. Bob and Joans son, Peter, recently graduated from Dartmouth and is now attending the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he is pursuing a graduate degree; son Charles is slated to complete his engineering degree at Dartmouth this year.

Our class "Webmeister," Don O'Neill, has updated the class of 1971 Web site, including an updated e-mail list.

News from classmates has been sparse, and it has been a long, hot and dry summer here in New York. I would appreciate any news or information you may be able to pass along regarding our classmates for inclusion in future class columns.
