The good news is on our arrival at Cape Cod (early June) we found minimum damage from last winters extreme weather. The verywet spring brought lush foliage and our backyard kettle pond is full and not choked with weeds and algae. The bad news is that it proved necessary to cancel the June mini-reunion that was planned again at Old Sea Pines Inn in Brewster. We even had an interesting speaker for the occasion but thinning ranks and infirmities proved a bit too much to hold the event. Perhaps the date, earlier than usual, hurt attendance also. Telephone calls to the usual Cape contingent found the Miskells headed for Burlington, Vermont, for a grandchild's college graduation; the Meads facing hip surgery for Jan; Ann Keefe dealing with John's recent death and thoughtfully writing her regrets at not being able to make the mini. Suzie and BobGray, regular visitors from New London, New Hampshire, the past couple of years, also had to decline as Bob is dealing with health problems. Doc Fielding and his acting partner, Pat McArdle, had a schedule conflict, Hugh Lena had too many conflicting things on his plate and neither RayMcMahon or Andy Caffrey was reachable by phone (are you guys okay?). Pres Moore, a summer Well-fleeter was not reachable by phone either. On the positive side Bob Grant called from Sarasota that he and Jean would be at their Brewster place in time for the mini and Howie Thomas, Don and Louise McCorkindale signed on. When I called the latter to tell of the need to cancel, Louise reported Don was not well and they would likely have to cancel. Bing Donaldson remains a busy guy and when I called to applaud him on his class fundraising efforts he immediately asked if he could sign me up as a regular for his tennis doubles team. Since Louise and I are off for a boat trip on the Rhine, Mainz and Danube this month I had to decline his offer. Deaths to report: HaroldFrost, Robert A. Wright, Alert A. Exendine, Bernard C. Ziegler and the aforementioned John Keefe. Our condolences to the families. Stay well! Fall mini: September 30 to October 1.
