THE 39th Annual Dinner and Meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Philadelphia was held at the Racquet Club on Tuesday evening, April 9, with approximately 150 alumni and guests attending. Following the usual business meeting these officers were elected for the coming year:—Presi-dent—George A. Hahn '32; Vice PresidentJohn E. McLaughlin '28; Treasurer—Herman J. Trefethen '26; Secretary—Cornwall Miller '39: Executive Committee for a term of three years—William R. Mackinney '32.
President John S. Dickey '29 addressed the meeting with an inspiring talk on "The Purpose of the College." He reminded us that leadership so necessary in democracy can best be obtained from college men trained to take an active part in civic affairs. It is reassuring to the alumni to know from personal acquaintance that Dartmouth is being led by such an able man.
Sid Hayward brought us up to date on local news at Dartmouth while Ed McMillan '01 said a few words as representing the oldest class present. Retiring President Fred Jaspersen '30 welcomed alumni guests from Trenton, Harrisburg, Eastern Pennsylvania Association, and Wilmington.
