HERE 8C THERE: According to the local press, Dave Schilling and his Lockheed F-8o Shooting Star Squadron made quite a ripple on their recent trip into Germany on "government business". Via the Armed Force magazine of July 1948, we find that Dave was the third ranking USAF Ace in the war. Perhaps war figures are a bit out of date, but as long as the Armed Force has gone to work ancf compiled the record we might as well quote just a bit of it. "One of the youngest colonels in the Air Force, 29-year-old Senior Pilot Schilling destroyed 24 German planes in the air and 10V2 on the ground. During World War II he spent 28 months overseas and flew 132 tombat missions, totaling 360 combat hours. Cited many times, for bravery and skill in action, he once shot down five Focke-Wulfe 190's on a single mission" Don Wheaton, in keeping with his summer schedule of recent years, hit the minor tennis circuit, and in the one case we know of, was runner-up to Yale's Jack Geller in the Maine State Championships. Don was also, we note, a brief visitor to the Hanover Inn during the summer.
