By the time you read this, the Cards will have won the Series in six games (says this prognosticator), LBJ will be back in office for four years .. . and most of you will probably be situated by the warm hearth, waiting for that Thanksgiving turkey to be served.
Received a letter from Bob Shirley which was chock full of news on the big Boston contingent. Bob related that he is still somewhat of a "social cripple" while working as resident in gynecology at the Free Hospital for Women in Brookline. According to Bob's news, there is a rather large group of '57 M.D.'s dwelling in and around Boston.
Included in this group is Erv Phillips who is headquartered in the Radiology Department at Peter Bent Brigham. Erv and wife Elizabeth have added one offspring to the family, a son. Also seen at Peter Bent Brigham was Polius Raslavicius who has since relocated at the University of Vermont and the Mary Fletcher Hospital. Polius is pursuing further training in pathology.
Bill Gallagher has moved his family, Diane and Bill Jr. from Annapolis to Cambridge. Bill is training in dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Another new arrival in the Boston area is RichardGrover Cleveland Farrish who has assumed responsibilities as a medical resident at the Lahey Clinic. Rumor has it that Dick and wife have three toddlers. More news in Bob's letter includes the following:
Charlie Sellman is one of Boston's fastest rising accountants. He has a lot of practice accounting for his low handicap. His bride, Elaine, it is said, needs some accounting as to why he needs to spend so much time on the links. One of Framingham's leading golfers and bridge players is Frank Barteaux.
Phil Rollins is a successful lawyer and is threatening to venture into the political scene one of these days. Larry Guild has the first two installments of a girl collection in Laconia, N. H., where he and Ginny have a fine new home. Textiles is the work, but Larry was most recently seen gracing the pages of McCall's and Ladies' Home Journal where he was featured as the family of a "Breck Girl." Dan Goggin, Charlie Sprott, Cal Perry, Fran Sarmi and Bob McDonald have all been seen and are all healthy looking and productive.
Dick Burch reports that all is well on Madison Avenue where he spends his working hours at the offices of Newsweek. Dick became affiliated with Newsweek about a year ago after a four-year stint with McGraw-Hill publications. Dick and spouse Sue attended the Alumni College session in August.
Tim Robinson has accepted a position at Jersey City State College where he has become the Assistant Director of Admissions. Prior to his assistant professorship at the college, Tim was affiliated with the Jersey City public school system as a math instructor. Tim and his wife Joan reside in Fair Lawn, N. J.
This past summer Les Little was instructing a rather extraordinary graduate course at the University of Chicago. Title: "Christian Monasticism in Europe in the Fifth Century." Among his students were Ph.D. candidates, a Spanish priest, a Catholic nun, and theology students. During his academic years since 1957, Les has attended the University of Chicago, Princeton, and the Sorbonne. He is now on his way to Paris where he will concentrate on his advanced studies in European medieval history.
TODDLER SECTION: Charles Wilbur King III joined the Snitz King family on October 3. Papa King is resting well as usual now that he is the veteran of two maternity campaigns. Katie and Tom Hall became the proud parents of a bambino. Colin Holmes Hall, in August. Papa and Mama Ed Mathews welcomed Edward Jr. to their family recently.
Rod Hinkle has been selected as an International Fellow at Columbia University where he is enrolled in Teachers' College, a Columbia affiliate. According to the news release, the International Fellows Program enables gifted American graduate students to combine professional education with advanced training in international affairs.
A very big pat on the back goes to our Newsletter Editor, Dave Orr, who has been given an added responsibility in Hanover. Davg is now the assistant secretary of the College.
Look Magazine senior editor, Chris Wren, is engaged to Jacqueline Braxton of Scarsdale. The wedding has been planned for this month. Jacqueline, a Smith grad, has been associated with St. Thomas Episcopal in New York where she is an assistant in Christian Education.
Mike Brown heard those wedding bells in October when he married Nancy Lou Huston of Cleveland. Don Spalding is in the about-to-be category since his engagement to Sandra Rossire of Falls Village, Conn. Don, a graduate geologist, is presently associated with the Connecticut State Highway Dept.
Mel Britton began his residency in internal medicine last summer at Mary Hitchcock Hospital, Hanover. Prior to this, Mel served his internship at Colorado General Hospital. Mel and Mary have two children, Elizabeth (6) and Lisa (3).
