Breathed a bit of Hanover's rarest and finest air this past weekend and found '46 represented for the Navy game. Saw TomMontgomery rolling down past the tennis courts with his wife and an endless camouflage of blankets over his famous glassed-in liquid heat. Jack Whitman ran into Charlie Whitmore in the stadium for a little of "remember those Middle Mass. miseries under Chief Pappy." The "William Paley of the North Woods," Nort Virgien, drove up from his radio station WFEA in Manchester, N. H. Nort's found the real answer to an interesting business and easy access to Dartmouth and the pleasures of the North Country. And over at the Psi U house who should appear in a Duo-Fold union suit, cut to Bermuda short length for the season, but old Surly Jack Underbill. Surly was in great shape, looked prosperous and maybe a pound or two heavier than his swimming season days. Sue, tan and looking well, was with him. Jack has a real number for the ski set this year, striped DuoFold union suits with the "snap-open" flapper. Louise and Bob Keene '30 again were the understanding hosts for '46 and their friends. Jean and Jack Whitman handled the welcoming duties from midnight to dawn. Jean played after-dinner music Saturday PM. You haven't lived till you've heard the "Growlers" do their version of a "A Wandering."

First it's Dave Whipple to Indo China in the diplomatic service, then comes the news that Bob Wenzel is U. S. Vice Consul in Saigon and Vietnam. '46's sure make a get-together the hard way. The tragic news that Les Allen was killed in October of 1952 in an auto accident just reached me from his brother-in-law Edward Fleer. Then this past August, his widow, Paula Fleer Allen, died of cancer in Franklin Hospital in San Francisco, Calif. She was buried alongside Les in Glens Falls, N. Y. Their two sons, Paul and Eric, will be brought up by Ed Fleer and his wife.

On the way up to Hanover last spring there was an old Indian standing along Route 5 in Windsor. He is reputed to remember everything. Tried him, asked him what he had for breakfast, December 6, 1927. He thought and answered "Eggs." Amazing! This fall while rolling up to the Navy game I chanced to spy the same Indian in Windsor. Now I figured I'd stump him. I went up and said, "How" and he replied, "Scrambled." It's a fairly furry story, but it's got to do with Indians. Besides, it's past midnight.
