Frank Halliday writes from Winter Park, Fla., that he has recently seen Rush Newcomb and Clarence Phelps and that they both look young and are in good health. The Gilmores spent the Christmas holidays with son Harry Jr., in Manchester, N.H. They had a grand time and met several Dartmouth men and their families who are neighbors of Harry Jr. They also went up to Concord and called on the Leachs and found them both well.
We received a Christmas card from Tucson, Ariz., that will interest you all. It reads, "Can you imagine Mrs. 'Skunk' Hathaway in blue jeans and flannel shirt trimming up the desert mesquite and palo verde, while son John raises rabbits? Well, here we are on a tenacre ranch, eighteen miles from Tucson, doing just that." Dora says they love it, and it is a great life, and the rewards in air, peace, sunshine, sunsets, and friendly folks are infinite. ... The Eddys are now in Sarasota, having left Hartford in November, and making the trip in five days. They found the roads good, weather fine, and motels and restaurants excellent. They have seen Warren Kendall '99 and his wife and they expect to see Lucia Salomon, as she is due down there this winter.... Frank and Elsie Cudworth have finally joined the ranks of the grandparents. The boy is lively and sturdy and his father says he should make good football material. "I suppose for Columbia," says Cuddy. Joe and Maud Raphael recently dined with the Bishops and the enjoyment was keen as usual. Joe is being kept on in his job for some time, as the State appreciates what a valuable and constructive contribution he has made.
Deacon Hildreth continues his work with the Town of Westford, Mass., and has had to affix the town seal to 850 thousand-dollar bonds to take care of the financing of the building of a $850,000 high school for that town. He is also busy with his usual title search work at the Lowell and Cambridge Registries.... Johnnie Ward has served the interests of the Essex Savings Bank in Lawrence for over forty years, having been made a trustee in 1913 and elected first vice president in 1923, and now at the annual meeting in January was elected president. He has also been a director of the Bay State Merchants Bank since 1910. Besides these bank interests, Johnnie still carries on at 2 South Broadway as president of the Shoe Lace Company.
