We open the meeting with a quotation which is self-explanatory from Editor Widmayer of the MAGAZINE as follows: "As the list of contributors to the 1957 Fund will be printed with the Class notes in the December MAGAZINE, we request that notes be kept as concise as possible." Okay, Charlie, never could there be a better excuse for a shortage of news. We shall concur.
Again we are saddened by the death of another classmate. Word has been received of the passing of Charles A. "Pot" Fifer who passed away in Orlando, Fla., on August 27. "Pot" made the most of life as a successful manufacturer, entertainer, song writer and in recent years has made a hobby of golf when he retired to live in Florida in 1953. You may recall his humorous and very interesting letter which we published in our column last year. And so it goes. "Gather ye rosebuds while ye may."
Larry Symmes is now on his eighth (I think) trek across the country. He and Dorothy are to spend some time on the Coast visiting with their family and with the Dartmouth contingent thereabouts. En route, he wheeled into Denver to see Mason Lewis with whom he enjoyed a nice visit. A few days later, he picked up a Denver paper to see a picture of a group of Denver socialites who were attending the opening of the Symphony. Sho nuff, prominent in the group of five were Mason and his lovely wife. Hope we'll see them in Hanover come June.
The Rockford Morning Star of October 8 carries in its editorial column a long and complete story of the Dartmouth Convocation from the pen of Bill Knight who attended it. Bill did a fine job on it and it certainly will do Dartmouth no harm out that way.
Got to stop. It's time to call the roll.
