As I sit down to write the column this month I find myself very cheerful because at long last I have ample news about you fellow '48's. The returns from the questionnaires for the directory plus a little bit of detective work have given me ammunition for a journey around the country to visit our classmates.
Paul Campbell, whom most of you remember from his exploits on the basketball and tennis courts, writes that this year he won the Doylestown (Penna.) Country Club golf championship and golf is his favorite game. I am also a convert, Paul, and feel just as you do about the game. Paul is now personnel administrator at the Temple University Medical School's Department of Psychiatry. He and Lorraine have a son Scott now almost three years old.
A couple of months ago, Gene Rohloff moved from New York to Chicago to join another advertising firm. Gene is a copywriter with Arthur Meyerhoff Associates in that city. He is still a bachelor.
The other day I received a notice that Jack Tracy was recently made a partner in the Worcester, Mass., law firm of June, Fletcher and Whipple. Jack graduated from Harvard Law School and has been associated with this firm since 1954. Jack and Ann are the proud parents of Susan, six; Sally, four; Nancy, two; and Jonathan, born last May.
Traveling a few miles west of Massachusetts we find Jan Newhouse living in Kaapa on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Jan and Ellen have four little surfboarders between the ages of ten and one. They are Jan, Debbie, Ellen, and Timothy. Jan is the Director of Research for the Hawaiian Canneries Company, pineapple growers and packers.
We have two other classmates (in the food business) on another island - Long Island. Hank Mueller is Long Island sales representative for Oscar Mayer, Philadelphia meat packers. Hank and Nancy live in North Merrick. They also have four children, three boys and the youngest, a daughter Joanna born February 13, 1959.
Bud Mercer is living farther out on the south shore of the Island in Sayville. Bud is manager of the Bluepoint Company, which grows and ships oysters. Hope the crop's good this year, Bud. Eve keeps busy with Antonia, Giles, and Nanette.
Now traveling up to the mountains of Vermont we have news to report about StanChurchill. Stan and Eleanor's second son, named George, was born July 4, 1959. Stan lives and practices veterinarian medicine in Orleans, Vt.
Going down the Appalachians we find Stuand Eleanor Craig in Danville, Va., where Stu is a lawyer. The Craig household includes Pamela, five-and-a-half, Stuart Jr., four, and David, born in November, 1959.
Should one need legal counsel in the Wild West, you can call on Fred Loomis out in Cheyenne, Wyo. Freddie is a partner in Loomis, Lazear and Wilson. He and Marilyn have two daughters, Cindy, aged three, and Pam, almost one.
Gerry Peck has recently moved from Boston to Los Angeles where he is a sales representative for Lightolier Inc., manufacturers of lighting fixtures. Gerry will have the opportunity to learn about the movies from some of the starlets as he is still a bachelor.
I heard recently that Tom and Janet Warren are living at 29092 Fourner, Madison Heights, Mich. Tom is a research engineer with the Vickers Company in Detroit.
Dick Vernam is now a buyer in the purchasing department at the head office of Swift and Company in Chicago. Dick and Doris with their two sons and two daughters are living in suburban Country Club Hills, Ill.
I had a very pleasant chat with CharlieRandolph who lives in nearby Weston, Conn. Charlie is Eastern advertising sales manager for "Business Week" magazine. His family consists of wife, Joan; Peter, eleven-and-a-half; Katherine, nine; and John, four.
On behalf of the class of 1948 I want to extend our deepest sympathy to Reed Havi-land and his daughter Agnes and son Reed on the passing of his wife, Georgette on January 18, 1960. Reed is currently engaged in the real estate business in Darien and lives in South Norwalk, Conn.
The rest of the news I have can wait until next month as space and time are getting short. I sincerely hope that the directory will be in your hands by the next issue of the MAGAZINE.
