The time and effort that it took to mail the questionnaires for the directory and also correlate the information from those returned has certainly proven to be worthwhile. Most of you were amazingly prompt and as soon as the last few arrive, we will be ready for publication. I am still hoping to have '48's first directory in your hands by the first of 1960. I want to thank all of you who have already returned your forms and again remind those of you who have not yet done so to please send them in immediately. Now for the news.
Al McAllister is doing a grand job at Phoenix of Hartford Insurance Co. He was just elected assistant treasurer according to a recent announcement by the company. Al and Lois and their daughter and son are living in West Hartford.
By an odd coincidence two of our classmates have been promoted to relatively equal positions in the same company. Bob Foster and Paul Liscord have both been appointed associate actuaries at the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford. If I need to borrow any money I think I'll head up Hartford way since '48 seems to be pretty well entrenched in the insurance business. Both Bob and Paul live in nearby Windsor, Conn. Bob just moved to a new house in Windsor with Sally and sons Robert Jr., and Don.
I had a very enjoyable lunch with Jay Rutledge, that gay bachelor from sunny California who looks as though the life and climate have agreed with him. Jay is in the investment business in Oakland and reports that he has been playing quite a bit of tennis lately. Jay also recently moved to a new apartment.
In addition to his job as an Internal Revenue agent for the Government. Ralph Helm has been very busy working for the Lions. Ralph recently was appointed deputy district governor for the local area. As if this job didn't take enough of his spare time, Ralph is also a 32 degree Mason. Wife Gladys and daughter Sally probably see little of Ralph these days.
It looks as though Dartmouth is going to have to look west for its halfback material because Dick O'Leary's wife Rita just presented Dick with his fourth daughter, the baby being named for its mother. The O'Learys live in Hartsdale, a suburb of New York City, where Dick owns and operates a liquor store.
After doing very well at Continental Casualty in Chicago, Ken Saunders recently moved to Detroit and joined the Standard Accident Insurance Co. Ken, Jean, and the rest of the family are living in nearby Birmingham, Mich. We can be sure Ken will continue moving up with this company as he did with the previous one.
If any of you happen to be planning a trip around the world, be sure to stop and visit Dave Walsh in Manila. Dave was just transferred there to become resident manager for the American Foreign Insurance Company. Dave and Cynthia have three children. Their youngest daughter, Alex andra, was born last March.
The John Beckers announced the birth of Robin Anne, who arrived last April 26. John is with Reynolds Metals in New York City.
Another baby born last spring was Nancy, daughter of Howard (Honey) and Louise Hirshberg. Honey is a shoe manufacturer and resides in Manchester, N. H.
Ken and Barbara Carpenter have moved from Mill Valley, Calif., to La Selva Beach, Watsonville, Calif. Ken is a sales engineer for Federal Pacific Electric Co. in nearby Santa Clara.
After moving around quite a bit for the Minnesota Mining and Mfg. Co. Jim Woods is now at the home office in St. Paul, Minn.
Allan and Madeline McCurry recently moved into a new home in Indianapolis. Mac is Associate Professor of History at Butler University. He received both his Master's degree and Ph.D. at Cornell after graduating from Dartmouth.
