It is a painful duty to report the death of George McCarthy whom so many of us knew so well in our carefree days at Hanover. This regrettable report brings to mind the Naugatuck High School contingent, possibly the largest from one school, that was with us in Hanover. The group consisted of Mac, Roy Bunting, Sam Chevalier, Steve Collins, X Cullen, Doc Delaney, Bill Neary, and Joe Talbot. They have scattered far and wide, of course, but the good wishes of the clan still accompany them.

As the Capital Gifts Campaign goes into its final phase, Twoters continue their efforts toward its success. As team captains in various areas Bob Clark is working in southwestern Connecticut, Tony Hanlon in western Massachusetts, and Bill Pope in northwestern Ohio.

Windy City correspondents send good news that our J. L. Robinson - Larry to us - has become chairman of the board of B. F. Gump Co., Chicago manufacturer of food and chemical plant equipment. The Gump Co. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the New York firm of Jabez Burns and Sons, Inc., prominent manufacturer of food processing equipment. In addition to his new duties, Larry will continue as president of Jabez Burns and Sons, Inc. Larry joined the Burns Co. in 1930. He has been director of the company since 1938, vice president since 1944, and president' since November 1957. Congratulations, Larry and Jeannette.

Classmate Professor Eaton Leith has for many years been faculty adviser to Delta Sigma fraternity at Bowdoin. In appreciation of his guidance, the Eaton Leith Cup has been established by an anonymous donor to be awarded annually "to that member of Delta Sigma fraternity who by his scholarship, character, and humanity best exemplifies those principles which Eaton Leith has sought to instill in Delta Sigma." Difficult to think of a nicer tribute to a more deserving Twoter. Eaton is currently on sabbatical leave from Bowdoin where he is chairman of the department of Romance Languages.

The class gained additional distinction when Elmer Ardiff was recently designated as an assistant vice president of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. With this promotion, Ard leaves his former position as General Commercial Manager - Massachusetts to assume new responsibilities which extend over the five states served by the company. He is now directing the company's activities in merchandising, sales and servicing, the compilation and publication of all telephone directories and directory advertising sales. Congratulations from the clan to Ard and Frances.

Twoters who read the interesting "Freshman Days" (March issue) know how vividly Robert Frost '96 recalled Barron Shirley '92 and Preston Shirley '96. And all of us would have enjoyed the article even more had we known that our classmate Wayne Shirley is the son of Barron Shirley and the nephew of Preston Shirley. This and many other Dartmouth subjects, no doubt, were thoroughly discussed when Warren and MaryDaniell visited Wayne and Dorothy a little while back.

Our Judge F. Anthony Hanlon recently represented the College at Pittsfield (Mass.) High School. Tony met with groups of juniors a nd seniors interested in admission to Dartmouth.

As captain of the Dartmouth squash team John Horan, son of Frank and Betty, led his teammates through a successful season. The team finished its activities by placing third in the National Intercollegiate Squash Association Championships at Princeton.

Now we're really getting shaken down - for the second consecutive month only one new address notice: Robert Burgess Jr., Seaway Villas, Delray Beach, Fla. Doesn't sound as if you need it, but just in case, good luck, Bob and Babe.

Time is fast running out in the Capital Gifts Campaign. This small class of '22 will never have a more appropriate opportunity to show its loyalty to Dartmouth. The class sincerely hopes every Twoter will be a contributor and, if possible, a share donor. The time for thinking is over. Give now and give generously.
