Your secretary and Marion left Florida the last of March arriving home April 11. Our first stop was New Smyrna Beach to see Tom and Stella Barnes. They are well although Tom has to take it easy. If any of you happen to be near them do drop in for a visit as they were glad to see us and get news of other Dartmouth friends. Then on through St, Augustine, Sea Island, Charleston and Tryon where we spent several days with a friend, formerly of Evanston. Saw a story, with picture in the New York Times of April 16, announcing the appointment of Richard S. Morse as director of research and development for the Army. Ken has good reason to be proud of his son.
You are all familiar with outstanding work "Wattie" has done with foreign students at Dartmouth. He writes that this summer he is going to visit his son and daughter who Jive in the state of Washington. The trip is by automobile and with him will be three or four of his foreign students. He plans to go via New Orleans, San Antonio, Mexico City, El Paso, the Canyons and San Francisco' (where Coe Enbutsu sails for home. Those who were at 55th will remember he took our class picture.) North to spend two weeks with his son and then return by way of the Yellowstone, the Bad Lands, etc. Going out and coming back they will camp in state and National parks. What a man. Recently he celebrated his 80th birthday and is still going strong.
Wattie continues: "I have accepted a chair in general literature and drama at Saint Paul's College at Lawrenceville, Va., for '59-60. It is an all-negro coeducational institution formerly known as Saint Paul's Polytechnic Institute, and is a charitable enterprise of the Episcopal Church."
Thanks to those who have furnished news items. I hope to have more correspondents during the next college year. My summer address is Melvin Village, N. H.
