In accordance with the university's compulsory retirement age of seventy, Dr. Roy J. Deferrari, secretary general of Catholic University, retired September 1, after 42 years of service. When he retires Roy will drop four of his university titles - Secretary General, Summer Session Director, Director of Workshops and Gardner Professor of Greek and Latin. But he will retain his title as Director of Affiliation patiently shepherding a growing family of college, high school, and seminaries affiliated with Catholic University. According to Jean White, staff reporter of the Washington Post, it has taken 350 double-spaced typed pages to jot down Roy's "Memoirs of the Catholic University of America" which cover forty years, from 1918 to 1958 and, although he is retiring September 1, his memoirs will go on.

When the books were closed on the 46th Annual Alumni Fund campaign a grand total of $627,890.45 had been contributed by 10,072 alumni, parents and friends. Including 1912 in both categories, 29 classes exceeded 100% participation, 24 classes exceeded their dollar-goals and 67.5% of all living alumni had a share in it. It was the sixth largest amount ever contributed in such campaigns and we have Eddie Luitweiler again to thank for his success in keeping 1912 among the leaders.
Eddie has taken on another task for the Class for he was unanimously elected and accepted Chairmanship of the 1961 Interim Reunion to be held in June of '61. With our 50th Reunion coming up in 1962, the idea of holding the 1961 Interim in, or in the vicinity of, Hanover again has appealed to many.
The Norwich University Record flashed a picture of our Earl Cutting with members of the Class of 1910 attending their 50th Reunion at Northfield, Vt., this June. Edna and Earl motored over from Norwich to Clauson's Inn and Country Club to attend our most successful Interim Reunion on Cape Cod and took home with them the top prize and souvenir of that get-together, a picture of Dartmouth Hall painted by Dud Redfield.
Sheila and Elwyn Taber celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary at Hanover this July where they were joined by their family, Donald '41 and Betty (Lewis) Taber, and Florence and Roy Lewis of Lebanon, N. H. A good time was had by all.
Lyme Armes could not resist an invitation this summer to share a charcoal-broil cookout dinner with Lynda and Pike Childs at their home in Manchester, N. H. Lyme reports that Pike is very much on the go again.
Roy Frothingham, all the way from Los Angeles, Calif., made a surprise call on Lyme Armes in Northwood Center this past August. Roy had been visiting his brother Bob '15 on Cape Cod and had just completed a tour of the Dartmouth campus in Hanover for the first time since our 10th Reunion. Roy was the guest of Guy Swenson and family in Concord, N. H., on his trip East.
From the Keene Evening Sentinel, quote: "Harold S. Fuller, director of the Monadnock Community Hospital for the past thirteen years, has resigned because of his 'personal health and the best interest of the hospital.' He is retiring as soon as the trustees secure his successor but will continue his association with the hospital as director of personal relations and expects to assist with the hospital's maintenance fund work."
Florence and Roy Lewis are to be congratulated; they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary September 24, with their entire family including eight grandchildren.
On their way to the Dartmouth-N. H. game September 24, Lyme Armes told Ben Adams that he had a sudden rush of "dooryard visitors" at Northwood Center including Gertrude and Ed McCarthy, Florence and Roy Lewis, Henry B. Stevens, Irene (Mrs. Duckie Drake), and Eleanor and Al Smith.
