Hello Chappies, Hope and I made the trip to England for the Holidays and returned little the worse for wear. We had a great time and suggest that all of you immediately drop everything you are doing and go. Be sure and take your rain coat. A serious weather report on the BBC stated that there would be rain in the morning followed by mizzle (mist drizzle) in the afternoon. You have to be pretty familiar with the weather to make a distinction like this.
As we were sitting in Idlewild waiting for the plane Hope saw a large article in the paper stating "Igaya in Olympics." Chick has been in the insurance business with American International Underwriters in downtown New York. However, because of the many requests from the skiing fans in Japan Chick has taken a leave of absence from the insurance business for the duration of the Olympic Games.
After completing his duties as a company commander at Fort Belvoir, Va., Sherm Mills was transferred to the Airborne School at Fort Benning, where he successfully passed the course at "Jump School." He recently arrived in Stuttgart, Germany, for a threeyear hitch with the 503 rd Engineer Light Equipment Company. He was accompanied by his wife Caroline. Following a world-wide competition within the U.S. Army, Pvt. Dan Frankel was chosen to tour the world's Army bases in the "Rolling Along Show." The show will be in Japan, Okinawa, Alaska, Hawaii, and Europe. Dan is professionally known as Daniel Shazar and has sung and played with the Meyer Davis Orchestra and Lester Lanin as well as playing the lead role in the "Jazz Singer" for a New York production.
In the engagement column Miss Lorna J. Burke will become Mrs. Charles Tesckares this coming June. Lorna graduated from Colby in 1959 and her husband-to-be has completed two years in the service and is now attending the University of Penn Graduate school of Architecture. Bobby Vostal and Miss Barbara Hampson have announced their engagement. Barbara graduated from Centenary College and is now -working with Peerless Tube Company and Bob is a territory manager for Wyeth Laboratory in New York City. Bob's job has a bit of a medical slant because he must keep a group of doctors happy with the products of Wyeth and do this in medical jargon, of course.
Steve Zaslow and Miss Francene Schulman are also planning to be married in June. Bob Baehr and Miss Clara Jane Hall were married over the holidays. Bob is doing graduate work at the University of Hawaii and teaching at the Punahou School. His fiancee graduated from Northwestern and, after teaching modeling in New York City is now also teaching at the Punahou Schooi.
Kent Whittaker and Miss Judith Cameron have announced their engagement. Kent is a senior at the University of Michigan Law School and Judy, who graduated from Pembroke, is in her first year of Law School. BobEigen and Miss Joan Kimmel have announced their engagement and plan to be married in the spring. In the summer Joyce Warrick will become Mrs. Galen W. Clough and will live in Indiana where Galen is working at the University of Indiana for his doctorate in English. Bob Smith and Miss Emily Lehman have announced their engagement. Bob is now in the third year of Law School at Harvard and Emily will graduate from Smith this June. Miss Jean Foley and Bob Rex have announced their engagement. Jean graduated from the University of Connecticut. After their wedding they will live around Boston where Bob is a salesman with the Continental Can Company.
Dan Goggin, who is a first Lieutenant in the Marines is back in the Boston Arena preparing for a try-out for the final eliminations for the i960 U.S. Olympic Hockey team. The finals will be held at West Point. Dan is officially stationed at the Marine Air Station at El Toro, Calif. Lan Cady has departed from the Navy Life and now is working for Eastman Kodak as a Management Trainee. Randy and Ginny Aires are at the Michigan Law School while Jack and JoanHall are in Newport though at the present time Jack is visiting the deep Atlantic with the Navy. Bob Caldwell is at the Med School of the University of Rochester and Bob Woolman is a high priced scientist at the Eastman Kodak Park. John Stouffer is at Virginia Beach and has shipped over in the Navy for a while longer. Frank Andrews, who is also at Michigan, has just finished a trip around the world and now is completing his law studies.
A short while ago I was sorry to report that Ben Bixby was laid up in the Boston Children's Hospital. Ben had polio but fortunately he had taken the four polio shots prior to that and is now happily well on his way to recovery. Ben and Betsy will leave in the spring for a cruise to the South American climates and then in the fall Ben hopes to return to Harvard Business School.
