Nikolayev and Popovich have nothing on the Class of ’53. Hanover’s Valley News recently carried a picture of helmeted Capt.John Springer with an HSS-1N helicopter on a recent tour of duty with the Marines at South Weymouth, Mass. John is flight safety officer with the Marine Reserve Helicopter Transport Squadron, and when not serving with the Leathernecks is assistant administrator at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital. There are others in the Class who also are giving freely of their time and effort to make sure we’re strong in all ways possible. The free will of their action is the difference.

And speaking of free will 564 members of this great class are to be sincerely thanked for their spirit of generous giving to the 1962 Alumni Fund. It was a fantastic accomplishment, one we should all take ex- treme pride in. The score card reads as fol- lows:

Average Participation Dollars Gift Objective 600 $15,000 $25.00 Results 564 12,292 21.75

Even though we did not reach our objective in any category, we came very close, and, in the last two weeks alone obtained 231 contributions totaling $5,702 and ended Number 1 in the Green Derby competition. Over the years we have done our fair share and more as we rightfully should.

The drive, momentum and friendly spirit of competition in this annual effort has been in great part due to the successive leader- ship of Charlie Fleet, John Corcoran, and for the past five years Ted Spiegel. They deserve our “tilt of the hat” and right behind them at all times have been Re- gional Agents and Class Agents who have done a bang-up job doing the legwork in these campaigns. This year the Regional Agents were Dick Blum, Bill Vitalis, EdCondit, Paul Arenberg, Marv Klein and Tony Frank, plus over 90 agents across the country.

And now, we can look forward to June, 1963 going back to Hanover to see how this money is being put to work to build a Dart- mouth first rate in every respect.

Yes sir, Reunion plans are now being firmed up and your mailbox will begin to bring you news of the great time ahead for us all June 21-23.
