Here goes another disaster - with apologies. I'm on a business trip which has extended all out of hand and all reason, even to missing "challenge golf" on Saturday; and now with the notes due in Hanover I find myself a thousand miles away from my Remington and what pithy comments I'd jotted down for March.

At least this column is worth more than others. Probably to the Bell System only. An $18.26 jingle to my wife brought about the following deathless reports: (a) The repairman says the big TV set in the den isn't worth repairing, (b) Joe Vancisin's picture was in the Bridgeport Herald. His Eli cagers are having a reasonably good year including a win over Dartmouth, (c) It seems probable that we will need a new $450 septic tank, (d) Claude Shuchter was recently elected executive vice president of the Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company of Buffalo, effective December 31. His picture was in the paper too. (e) Warren Mills is an associate professor of Government at Beloit College in Austin, Texas.

(f) The washing machine is making funny, knocking noises, (g) Frank Davis is now living in the Virgin Islands at St. Croix, (h) BobCallan is traffic superintendent for New England Tel. and Tel., is making his home in Paxton, Mass. (i) The new Brooks shirts arrived, but, again, they didn't put pockets in them, (j) Bill Hirons has a cute address in Martinsville, Va. He lives on Corn Tassel Trail, (k) Tom Breen also lives in Virginia but he's in Springfield. (1) "Your son" left a purple crayon on the new living room rug and stepped on it. (m) Frank Ames has been named vice president of Dwight Brothers Paper Company in Chicago as of December 4. (n) Carl Spaeth, a vice president of the City Bank and Trust Company of Jackson, Mich., was recently given the added duties of cashier, (o) The cigarette burn in my polo coat can't be patched and has to be re-woven and "you know what that costs! (p) Perry Banghart was named New England district manager for Triangle Conduit and Cable of Boston, will still personally cover the Hub and Rhode Island areas, (q) Lt. Col. Jim Elliott is now making his home in Springfield, Va. "Put this under the piece about Tom Breen and maybe they'll get together." (r) The insurance company wants to know why we didn't notify the police that the children stole the split rails from our fence for their night-time fire while sleigh riding.

(s) Don Lindell, probably our foremost expert on Central and South America, recently joined the Foreign Department of the Continental Insurance Companies. His immediate concern is in expanding activities in the Caribbean area. He might pass on some suggestions to an address on Pennsylvania Avenue, (t) John Berry, Hose Craig, and Bud Welch are, according to Helen, really working on Reunion plans and Bud really didn't sell the Teddy Bear Andy lost at their house to Good-Will, (u) Dr. BillBrewster is now making his home at the River House in Arlington, Va., a hot-bed of '44's. (v) "How much is this call costing? Can you put it on the expense account? Why not? Oh, well, you got another insulting letter from Conte Blanche and we need a new clutch in the wagon. Well, have a good time. 'Bye."

And so as I sit here in one of Mr. Hilton's more posh broom closets I am having a dandy time writing this, only asking your indulgence, and just terribly sorry I couldn't drag it out to (z) which was to have been my reward to drop down to the "Buttery," have a bourbon pan cake and forget this terrible mess.

Since leaving Tuck School in 1947 there's been a Ford in Dick Ranger's future. The word from Detroit these days is that Dick has been appointed car sales promotion manager for the Ford Division of Ford Motor Company. He began with Ford as a trainee in the Boston District, and subsequently held positions there as field manager, business management manager, and used car manager. He went with the Ford Division's parts and service field promotion staff in Dearborn in 1960 and one year later was promoted to market analysis coordinator in the Division's programming department. Dick, Carol, and their two children live in Birmingham, Mich.
