Over 175 staunch Dartmouth boosters in the Chicago area crowded the University Club on Wednesday, March 27, for President Dickey's annual trip to the "Windy City." The evening began on a businesslike note with workshops for discussion of alumni fund and recruiting matters. Preceding the dinner, which was also attended by the wives this year, alumni had an opportunity to reminisce about the changing Hanover scene over cocktails.

President Dickey, in his traditionally fine speech, brought those in attendance up-to-date on fast-moving events at the College and stressed the importance of graduate school preparation in a liberal arts college in these times when over seventy percent of Dartmouth students go on to graduate school.

Charles Moore '25, head of the 1963 Alumni Fund Drive, outlined the goals of this year's drive and stressed the importance of increased participation if these goals are to be met. At the workshop held earlier in the day Chicago area workers were briefed in greater detail by Moore, Cliff Jordan '45, Executive Secretary of the Fund, and RogerWilde '2l, former Alumni Council representative from this area. Tom Murdough '26, our present representative in Hanover, unfortunately had to be out of town. Don Williamson '42, area chairman for enrollment, led the discussion of recruiting practices and results.

Carter Strickland '29, head of the Alumni Council, presented well-deserved awards to two Chicago area alumni for outstanding service to the College. These annual awards this year went to Al Louer '26 and Bill Embree '21. Others seated at the head table for the dinner included the officers of the Chicago Association: Jim Stevens '51, President; Dick Loewenthal '53, Secretary; and Dick Frey '50, Treasurer. William D. Blatner '05 and Cortland B. Horr '18 took the honors for oldest Association members in attendance.

Earlier in March, Tom Murdough presented a very fine discussion of events that had transpired at the recent Alumni Council meetings held in Hanover. About thirty interested alums gathered at our weekly luncheon to get a firsthand report on the effectiveness of recently-opened Hopkins Center and the discussions held with College officials on matters of interest to all Dartmouth men.

Now that the weather is pleasant again you have no excuses for not attending the weekly luncheons. So. we'll see you at the Real Estate Board, 4th floor, 105 West Madison, next Monday at noon.

Some 80 alumni and wives attended the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Long Island dinner to hear Prof. Al Foley '2O and to see Tomahawk Awards given to CoachEddie Jeremiah '30 and Trustee Charles Zimmerman '23. At the head table were (l tor) Martin Dwyer '34, president, Dartmouth Club of Westchester; Foley; Jeremiah;Michael Pender '47, president, Long Island Club; Rudy Preuss '27, toastmaster; Zimmerman; Mrs. Preuss; and Red Fitzsimmons '56, chairman of the dinner committee.
