Obviously the hot spot for the U.S. Information Agency is Viet Nam; and it won't be particularly surprising for you to know that Saigon is now home for the Fritz Hiers. Fritz did a dandy job as Director of the USIA's Amerika Hans in Germany, so good, in fact, that upon news of his departure from Tuebingen, he was ceremoniously and uniquely made an honorary and lifetime member of the city. Fritz and Joan's job is to win support for U.S. policies and to give the world a true picture of the American people. This is a complex assignment involving all facets of a society, from elementary educators through the business community to the top politicians. In Saigon, Fritz will be the Senior Field Representative of the USIA.

Bob Rader was recently named head of the D. H. Obermyer Leasing Company. As exec. v.p. of the firm, which is an affiliate of the D. H. Obermyer Warehouse Company, a national warehousing and distribution firm headquartered in N.Y.C., Bob will emphasize leasing of all types of equipment from office furniture to airplanes to Obermyer customers . . . and anyone else who's in the market. Bob was formerly v.p. of Eastern Industrial Leasing Company of Philly.

We had the U.S. Pro-Am Golf event here in Cincinnati last week. Among the ardent spectators were Dr. Bud Coith, just back from a week's golfing in Sea Island, and West Shell who, for the world's worst reason, hadn't "held a club for eight weeks!" It seems that through some complicated matter concerning a trust, West was named manager of the Ridgewood C.C. here, a job that requires his full attention on the weekends. None of that attention being spent on the links either at Ridgewood or at the Cincinnati C.C. where he is a member. West is president of the West Shell Inc. Realty company, possibly the most successful and fastest growing firm of its type in the Cincinnati area. Now with this golf club thing, his recreation period per month hardly equals his daily quota at the Nugget in the days of yore.

Effective the first of October, CharlesFarley assumed the managership of Macy's Albany. He joined Macy's after graduation from Tuck in '47 and has been climbing the ladder of promotion and success in a wide variety of capacities with the world's largest department store ever since. Ab Davis is another who has gone through the musical chairs of promotion. He joined the Southern New England Telephone Company after graduation and year by year stepped up the ladder, just recently being elected vice president in charge of public relations.

Attorney Jim Donnelly was recently appointed a trustee of the Worcester Mechanics Savings Bank. And Tom Streeter has been elected a director of the First National Iron Bank. Resort operator, Don Smith, keeps hammering away at his first love, advertising, and has been appointed v.p. of the planning division of McCann-Erickson, Inc. Anheuser-Busch has named FrankParker as Eastern Regional Sales Manager with responsibilities extended from New England through New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Even Tanzi must be staggered at the flood of "Bud" Frank must be dispersing every minute.

Monte Basbas, lawyer by trade and civic figure by devotion to his home town of Newton, was given an enthusiastic testimonial dinner last May. The response to his contributions to Newton were such that he now finds himself running for Mayor in November. Even the sports writers take time off in their columns to extoll his virtues all the way back to his prowess as a football hero at Kimball Union.

Bill Abrams is unit manager for Mutual of Omaha in Poughkeepsie, making his home in Kingston. Murray Mondschein is now living in Forest Hills. Doug Alton is president of the D. C. Alton Manufacturing Company in Newton Highlands, Mass. Ryland Robbins is out in Reno, treasurer of Sunshine Art Studios. Dr. Bill Gablin has moved to Florida and is assigned to St. Josephs Hospital in Tampa. George Cummins has been named general manager of the El Conquistador Hotel in Puerto Rico. Dr.Frank Behrle has moved into the educational field and is now in charge of the Department of Pediatrics at the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry in Jersey City. Dick Howe is in Dallas, v.p. in charge of advertising for Comet Rice Mills.

I understand that the 44th Dartmouth Reunion weekend was another great success and it certainly looks as though it's fast becoming an institution.
