Phoenix

An informal reception was held on December 29 at the Green Gables Restaurant in Phoenix, Ariz., by the local alumni to welcome and get acquainted with prospective applicants for the Class of 1969.

Five good-looking candidates, accompanied by their parents, were warmly welcomed by the alumni listed below. Among the regular stalwarts of our club were Bill Behrens '56 and his charming guest, Jane Vandecar, Ed Comins '45, Charlie Fay '46, Russ Fisher '17, Bill Gilmore '34, Austin and Mrs. Grant '38'and their daughter and son, Dick Grant who is now a senior at Stanford and hopes to now get the chance at Dartmouth Medical School. Also attending were Larry and Mrs. Henderson '22, Dune and Phyllis Newell '36 and their son Dune and daughter Julia; Tower and Mardie Snow '31, Bill Miller '51, Ken Thompson '46. and Ken Todd '32.

In addition to these regulars, the meeting was made exceptionally enjoyable, as we were fortunate in being able to have with us Captain and Mrs. Al Crehan '51, who has been stationed at Williams Field for four years, but has been unable to make our mid-day meetings due to his flying duties, and by the presence of Dick and Peg Holbrook '31, who have just moved to Phoenix and attended their first Dartmouth affair. Also Nick and Alice Xanthaky '34 who just flew in the night before from Salem, Mass. for a year-end vacation. We were also happy to have Reno and Mrs. Simone, father of Tom Simone '65 and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rule, parents of Gordon Rule '68.

The highlight of the evening was centered around the impromptu talks of two undergraduates and two members of the class of 1964. Gordon Rule '68 gave the reactions of a freshman just entering and completing his first semester at Dartmouth, followed by Chuck Riley '67 from the point of view of a sophomore. We then had talks from two 1964 graduates, Bob Connor who is now in Harvard Business School, and his old roommate, Chuck Henderson (son of Larry Henderson '22) who is now in law school at the University of Arizona.
