As our Tenth Reunion approaches and my tenure as your secretary comes to a close, I try to analyze my continued interest and enthusiasm in Dartmouth. I think it is partially summed up in a letter I just received from one of our classmates, SteveNichols, who is returning to Hanover this summer to join the Dartmouth Faculty as Professor of Romance Languages and Comparative Literature. Steve writes, and I quote, "During my visits to Hanover this winter I was able to observe once again the close rapport between students and faculty as I remember so well as being an outstanding feature of our undergraduate experience." This is part of it and the other is the close rapport with our fellow students as we traversed the four years of learning and experience as we approached graduation. It has been my pleasure to serve as your secretary during the last couple of years for it has given me the opportunity to keep track of many of my friends and classmates from those unforgettable years in Hanover. I hope that Judi and I will have the opportunity to see many of you during Reunion Weekend. ... June 21-23.

More about Steve.... He joins the faculty at Dartmouth from a position as chairman of the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Wisconsin. As he said in his letter "Many of my colleagues cannot understand why I should want to leave the chairmanship of one of the largest departments of comparative literature in the country and return to a primarily undergraduate institution. The answer is simple ... the large universities just cannot do the job that a school like Dartmouth can in undergraduate education." This is one opportunity and advantage that all of us have had. I know after ten years we continue to and maybe in some respects appreciate more what it meant to us.

A fine tribute was paid to Allen Pulsifer as teacher when he recently was voted the H. A. Webber Teaching Award at lowa State University. Al, assistant professor of chemical engineering, received a $500 savings bond by balloting of 60 senior chemical engineering students. Selection was based on knowledge of the subject, thoroughness of preparation, classroom presentation, originality, ability to inspire students, and effectiveness as an academic adviser. After Dartmouth, Al got his M.S. degree from M.I.T. and his Ph.D. from Syracuse University. He went to lowa State in 1965 after being with Lever Brothers, American Cyanamid, and W. R. Grace Company.

Wedding bells continue to ring for a few remaining diehards in the Class of 1958. Tom Colby has married the former Lucinda Porter. Tom and his bride are living in Syracuse. In White Plains, N.Y., Clyde Topping and Sally Phillips recited their nuptial vows. The Toppings are now living in Washington, D. C., where Clyde is an international economist with the Agency for International Development. John Coulter, whose engagement we mentioned a few months back, has also joined the married ranks. John's new wife is the former Catherine Louise Coulton of Rochester, N.Y.

Looks like Lindley Hall will be busy elsewhere at Reunion time ... defending our country! A member of a Naval Reserve Battalion mobilized in April, Lindley is now (at this writing) in Gulfport, Miss., and by June should be in Viet Nam for up to two years' active duty.

Again, I want to thank all you guys for letters and notes (including those on the backs of dues slips!) which we have received during the year and for the privilege of serving as your secretary. Looking forward to seeing you all in Hanover on June 21.
