Received an unexpected package from Simon & Schuster, publishers, a few weeks ago. It contained a book written by Lenny Levitt, titled "An African Season." Lenny tells about Peace Corps work and life in Africa. He's well-qualified for this story for as we know, he joined the Corps after graduation and spent the next two years teaching in a remote district school in Tanganyika. The reviews of the book are excellent and I'd like to add my praise to that of the professionals. Lenny has written a readable, highly descriptive and very moving story of life in Africa. It's worth getting. Lenny is now in New York, studying at the Columbia School of Journalism so there will probably be more published work from him in the future. While our class has had others who have published or performed, I don't know of any '63 who has gotten such tremendous response about his work.

Also received a note from Steve Jacobstein, who, with Pam, is living in Rochester, N. Y., and practising law there. Steve joined the Army Reserve and has about three more months to go. Pam is teaching school in a Rochester suburb. Steve spoke to Ted Cutler, who is with Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati and enjoying his work.

Barrett Johnson lets us know of his whereabouts —he's now at Florida State University in Tallahassee, studying for his doctorate in chemistry in a very nice environment. After graduation he earned his master's in radiation chemistry and acquired a wife - Merry Ann. They extend an invitation to any '63 passing through town. Barrett was recently elected vice-president of the Southeastern-Intercollegiate Sailing Association, the governing body for intercollegiate sailing in that area; a very major sport down there. He is involved with the group's liaison with the North American Yacht Racing Union which controls the sport. Apparently, Barry's a busy guy.

Just a few wedding notes: Steve Spahn, that's right-Steve-was married to Constance Periman in March. She's a Columbia alumna, with studies in California and Paris along the way. Her father is president of the New York Central. Steve went on to Oxford after Hanover, then back to New York for a Fellowship at Columbia. He was a project officer with the V.N. for awhile and now is assistant headmaster at the Dwight School. Steve will become headmaster in June.

Alison Brown Seidlity and Barry LeeBlackwell are engaged and plan a spring wedding. Barry is presently in the Navy, I believe; his fiancee is a senior at Wheaton from Kansas City, Mo. Steve Scott and Nancy Rolfe of New York and, also, Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., plan an early spring wedding. Steve is with Compton Advertising in New York; Nancy is employed by Pan Am.

A few short notes: Neil Dupey and wife in Orford, N. H. have a daughter - Adrianne Michelle - born January 19. First Lieutenant Robert W. Reynolds has received the Bronze Star for his service against the V.C. from August, 1965 to July, 1966. Bob received his medal at Fort Dix with wife, Mary, in attendance. He received a master's degree in business administration from Columbia in 1964.

Barrett Johnson mentioned my favorite topic in his letter - so I feel that it should again be mentioned. The younger alumni can be of inestimable help to local Dartmouth Clubs — in recruiting "scholar-ath-letes," in serving on club committees, in interviewing applicants for the College, and a myriad of other alumni-type tasks. I've just been elected secretary of the Philadelphia Club and one of my major projects will be to recruit younger alumni ('60 through '66) for membership in the Club. We can make a real contribution in interviewing, in particular, because of our familiarity with the way things are now in Hanover. Try to donate some time.

A book by Lenny Levitt '63, "An AfricanSeason," dealing with his Peace Corpsexperience in Tanganyika, was publishedlast month by Simon and Schuster.
